“Don't pay for WIFI”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

Great location, average rooms, not warm this very cold week, quite good value. Reasonable reception, but not quite a warm welcome. As a frequent business traveller I think charges for Internet access are an anachronism - like charging to switch on the lights! So rather than pay the £11 quid or so for 24 hours (!!!!) for the hotel service, search for free services - I was delighted to find one. To pick up on a previous reviewer's breakfast comments - scrambled egg was proabably from reconstiuted eggs - anyway, I couldn't stomach it. But overall, breakfast was OK, given the budget price.

“Nice place great central location”

The Holiday Inn Express brand doesn't really change much, all the same everywhere. Clean, tidy and decent prices for the location. It is right in the centre of Nottingham so great location for a night out without the need for a taxi.

There is plenty of nightlife nearby but we didn't hear a thing during the night when we went to bed so the sound proofing must be pretty good.

Breakfast was the usual continental so no complaints there.

Ideal location, decent price, give it a go :)

Thank you for taking the time to leave such fantastic feedback following your stay with us at the Holiday Inn Express in Nottingham.

We agree with your comments regarding our central location and despite being centrally located, with quadruple glazing our customers have very few problems with external noise.

I will ensure that your comments are shared with the hotel team and wish to thank you once more for leaving such positive comments.

Kind Regards

Alex

“For the price you really can't complain!”

If you are looking for a cheap, quiet city centre hotel in Nottingham you really can't beat the Holiday Inn Express. It is comfortable, quiet and you get a basic buffet breakfast. We booked a room for the family and what was lovely was that the bed for the boys was already all made up and they had put out enough cups for all four of us to have a hot drink (many times we have had to ask for extra cups for our boys). The hotel was nice and quiet which is important for me as I am a light sleeper and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was simple but for the price was an absolute bargain. You do have to park 5 minutes away but if you have cases on wheels it really isn't a big deal. If I needed to stay in the city centre again I would definately stay here.

“Advance payment scam”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

Be careful when paying a reduced rate in advance as when I did this on new years eve I booked a couple of weeks in advance for a price of £76 inc breakfast for a twin rooom. Paid with credit card and got email confirmation of booking.
When I arrived at the hotel they said my credit card was refused so I had to pay the full rate of £95.00 with no breakfast.
They said they had tried to contact me and left voicemail on my phone which was not true as the phone log proves.
Also my credit card was not tried according to my cc company.

Thank you for your comments, it is only with customer feedback that we are able to continue to improve the service that we provide.

I am sorry to learn of your disappointment regarding the advance purchase booking that you made and understand the frustration caused.

We often process in excess of 50 advance purchase bookings daily and I can assure you that the majority of these transactions pass without complication. It is often as a result of incorrect entry with card details that the transactions decline. We will always attempt to contact customers to try and resolve any payment problems before changing the reservations to the standard rate price. I understand that you dispute that we attempted to do this I can only say that it is never our intention to mislead our customers.

I would add that breakfast is provided free of charge to all customers and the payment problems would have made no difference you being able to have breakfast at the hotel.

I do hope that you continue to stay with Holiday Inn Express in the future and that my response goes someway towards demonstrating that we value and listen to all customer feedback.

Kind Regards

Alex

“Just fit for purpose”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

This is a budget hotel situated in the centre of Nottingham. I say budget but I paid £70 and in this economic enviroment, you can stay in a very nice hotel for that price !

I am pretty unenthusiastic about this hotel and the arrival experience set the scene. A bit of a queue followed by a receptionist who, whilst pleasant, couldnt find my details on the HI rewards database. Eventually booked in and went (via very slow lift) to my room only to find the key card didnt work! Back down with luggage, more waiting only to be told that the lock to my room was always going faulty and that another room needed to be allocated! Why give me that room in the first place?

Eventually reached room - very cold as the heating only seemed to work when the key card was in the power slot. Clean and reasonable size albeit bed was hard and no tolietries provided in basic bathroom.

Breakfast next day VERY basic and for the first time I can remember in a hotel, "cooked breakfast" did not include bacon!! Scrambled egg, sausage, beans and mushroom only - no bacon.

Any upsides? Well it was very well located and er... thats it. The receptionist was the only member of staff I saw - very low overheads .

There is an arguement for looking at smaller independant hotels who compete well at this price level and would provide a more comfortable and welcoming experience.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback following on from your recent stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Nottingham.

We are listening to customer feedback regarding our free breakfast offering and we are constantly looking at ways to improve the customer experience. I can assure you that we are listening to our customers and thank you for your time.

I am sorry to learn of the problems faced with your electronic lock, these systems are generally very reliable but do occasionally fail. I agree with the frustration that this must have caused and sincerely apologise for this.

The heating system is powered by the room key, as a hotel we are committed to reducing our impact on the environment and it would be inefficient for the heating in all rooms to be activate at all times. If you ask our reception team they would be more than happy to provide an additional key so that you could leave the system on whilst you are out of the room.

I am glad to see that there were some elements of your stay including the cleanliness of your bedroom that were positive.

We do hope to welcome you back to the Holiday Inn Express in Nottingham again and if you book in advance you may be able to take advantage of our advance purchase rates which offer a greater discount.

Kind Regards

Alex
