“Lovely boutique hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

Nice small boutique hotel - staff very friendly and helpful. Beautiful rural location. Room was small but good, apart from being a bit hot (you could not turn off the radiator in the bedroom, so had to sleep with the window open all night). Bed was very comfortable and the hotel was clean.
Shower was a bit tempermental - it took on average about 5 minutes to get the water to a temperature that would not freeze or scald you and it was one of those awful fixed shower heads. Once you had the temperature right, it was OK, but not the best shower I've ever had.
Food is excellent in this hotel - I can recommend it. Breakfast is good too, although they need to change 'eggs' on their menu as it suggest you get more than one, when you in fact only get one egg!
Overall, a very good stay.

“An Oasis of good food and lodging”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2011

This boutique hotel is run by people who are serious about their trade. The staff were excellent, friendly in a 'real', non-corporate, way.

The food, both dinner and breakfast, was excellent.

This hotel is located in an area which is a bit of a desert for decent nosh and accommodation, but it doesn't over-exploit price-wise. The Dinner B& B option was excellent value.

There is a problem with the plumbing, my power-shower in room 5 didn't work properly, but this was minor compared the the pleasure of staying at such a nice place

“Really nice place - just sort out the plumbing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2011

The Cockliffe is the sort of family run hotel I enjoy. You actually get good service from staff who don't use the corporate training 'customer speak' you get in chain hotels. They were helpful, chatty and not intrusive, perfect. The hotel is full of character and again, feels more like someone's home. You have a real key for the bedroom door not a swipe card that only works if you don't put it within five feet of a magnet!

The setting in Burntstump Country Park is excellent with some very pleasant walks/runs on the doorstep.

And now the plumbing. The problem seems to be in the rooms downstairs. Colleagues in these rooms complained of no hot water for two days. The duty manager, to his credit did feign amazement when told but, come on guys, you know about it, get it sorted.

A lovely place where you can escape from this crazy world and really chill out - but a hot bath would be nice.

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms are preferred.

“Wonderful Wedding Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2011

We have just had our sons wedding here and it was an absolutely wonderful experience. From start to finish the level of care and attention was first class. The staff were friendly and helped to create a very relaxed personal ambience .The accomodation was excellent ,every room had its own personality and beautifully decorated. The food was second to none and literally everyone has said it is the best food they have ever had at a wedding. The grounds of the house were beautiful and perfectly maintained and made for such a wonderful backdrop for the photographs.I honestly cannot fault anything for this wonderful place and would certainly reccommend it to anyone.Just wish we had another wedding to plan...
