“Disappointed in the cleanliness and service.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012 via mobile

Good location. Good cooked breakfast apart from the snotty eggs and having to guess what was available. Dirty. Poor service, said that bottled drinks available at reception, they weren't. Room absolutely freezing cold, no extra blankets, and it smelled of the toilet. Shower gel bottle empty. Somebody else's hair on the bathroom tiles in the shower. Cutlery in restaurant not clean. Bread for toast and croissants stale. Run by seemingly disinterested young lads. Overall felt dirty.

“ok hotel with welcoming staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2011

City centre hotel, very handy for my office. Not blisteringly hot [which suits me], comfortable with a decent sized room, easy to use TV and bathroom including a bath. Has seen better days but absolutely fine. Breakfast was HUGE, eggs x 2, sausage x 2, bacon x 2, load of mushrooms, tomatoes, beans.

“let down by three things”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

well, i had great expectations for a room costing £70 per night. however, there were two or three things that aggrovated me. firstly, the parking is farmed off to the NCP next door. so, if you arrive before 17:00 or stay after 09:00, you are charged their extortionate rate. overnight parking is £6, with the hotel discount. however, you need hindsight to get your "discount" parking; a bit of paper with your room number on it which you give to the NCP man BEFORE you pay, otherwise you're stung for £14. if you check-out at 11:00 as normal, you've already rattled up an extra £2.40-odd parking. thanks Welbeck, it was a pleasure staying. secondly, the bed was w@nk. the mattress has seen thousands of miles of use, and it showed. the middle was nearly touching the bed-base. i'm surprised there are other reviews which claim the sleeping service is so good; don't believe it. it was like sleeping downhill, where your feet are noticably higher than your head. thirdly, for the price, there was no breakfast. however, you have a choice; £10.75 or £7.95 for cooked or toast respectively. with that cash in your pocket, you can get three decent Wetherspoons cooked breakfasts plus 4x tea and toast. the only thing i did appreciate about the stay in the Welbeck was the packet of Bourbon biscuits with the tea/coffee. i would not recommend this hotel, nor will i be back.

“Ok but the details let it down.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011

I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights as part of a work trip. The hotel itself is not awful but could be a lot better. In it's heyday (maybe the 80's or 90's?) I am sure it was the dogs .... but now it feels dated and tired. The hotel is let down in the details.

The staff are all very friendly and welcoming. When I arrived there was someone to open the door (tie not tied up properly) and the gentleman at reception very friendly, explaining breakfast times etc..
Up I went to the 5th floor. Room was a good size, very large bed and a good sized tv on the wall. Bathroom, average.

So 1st, the bedroom. The door is not automatic and has to be manually locked (inside and out) no spyhole. Wardrobe was a little clunky with tea & coffee inside on of the cupboards (horrible cheap biscuits) The bed was very comfy and plenty of fluffy pillows. The room was a little on the chilly side, the aircon/heater did not seem to work (later I spoke with reception who said not to put the temp up straight away, it had to be done gradually over about 30 mins!) The room has a lovely big mirror, great for make up, and a desk and table.

The window was huge letting in lots of light, unfortunately my room overlooked student accommodation so I just kept the curtains shut. The room had an extra door which I can only assume joined into next door (locked thank goodness) I took my laptop along to do some work, phoned reception for the WEP key. Here's a tip, DON'T BOTHER!! there was NO signal. (A colleague of mine complained and was moved to the 1st floor where she got signal)

I see some people complained of the noise from the nearby club. I did not find this to be a bother in the slightest. I stayed mid week and yes, you can hear something, but you are in hotel in the centre of Nottingham. I found I was able to sleep absolutely fine. I found the 5th floor to be quite quiet overall, there were not many rooms on the floor and it was just along from the restaurant.

Bathroom; weird heater controlled from outside the room. I didn't time it but you pressed the button, it came on for a while (as a light) heating the room. Trouble I found when it went off it made the room darker. One of the details letting the place down, there was a sign stuck to the mirror (about towel use) stuck on with blue-tack.. The shower was brilliant, really hot and strong. Bath was good size/depth although there were a few nicks in the base. The glass shower-screen was awkward, had to pull it outwards to run the bath yet in the shower it wasn't big enough and the floor got slightly wet.

Restaurant on 5th floor: Staff very friendly and funny (in the evening, morning staff nothing special) Our company uses this hotel a lot, the evening staff were used to dealing with us and quickly build a rapport. The breakfast was good, especially the cooked. The continental was ok. The evening menu was very very limited. I had the steak on both nights. The first night it was not amazing (£17, not worth more than £11!) very fatty and hard to cut, the 2nd night it was better. The pudding was a microwave job at best. Again the detail letting the place down, the menu's were laminated, wipe clean. Cheap looking/feeling.

The lifts were in good condition and working order. The reception was bizarre, two old water features in the middle of the floor and wood panelling. There are 2 toilets in reception, the ladies had no toilet roll or soap and had tiles missing from the wall, there was also no where to hang my coat.

I would stay at this hotel again, great location and very comfy bed, but I would not book it.

Room Tip: If you want wi-fi, not the 5th floor. If you are sensitive to noise, asked to be as far from the clu...
