A 2night stay here could have been so much better & the restaurant ‘niggles’ could well have been over looked if an item of clothing had not disappeared from our wardrobe!!
We checked in on the evening of Fri 13th, the receptionist was friendly & helpful giving us directions to Talbot St car park, we left our baggage & went off to park the car. Back to the hotel & we were in room 601, a huge room on the top floor (note that the lift only goes to the 5th floor so we had to carry our baggage up one level of stairs). The room had all the usual amenities plus a sofa & coffee table – a nice touch is the wall mounted TV which could be directed towards the bed or the sofa.
We were booked into the restaurant at 8pm, chose our meals & gave the member of staff our order, unfortunately there was some mix up & we waited nearly an hour for our starter - an apology was given & the meal was tasty.
Breakfast the next morning was a complete disaster – one member of staff doing everything, the poor lad (Alex) was running back & forth at brake neck speed to try & keep all the guests happy, however, he didn’t stand a chance, there was no way that he could complete all the tasks – clear tables, serve tea, coffee & toast, fill up the hot food & replace the juices & cold food!!! We waited nearly half an hour just for the hot food. We spoke to the Duty Manager Abi & she apologised & said that they were short staffed & hoped that they would be able to offer a better service at dinner & breakfast the following morning.
The hotel, as previously mentioned is in the city centre & a short walk soon gets you in the shopping area, where we spent the morning & then the afternoon exploring the castle. Back to the hotel for a rest, then shower & change for dinner……………………………………..until I discovered that the top that I had quickly hung up as soon as we’d arrived the previous evening (because I didn’t want it to crease) was missing from the wardrobe!!! Of course both myself & husband then checked all over the room – had I left it in the suitcase? No, I remember hanging it up! Had my husband placed an item of clothing over it? No, there were plenty of spare coathangers – we were only staying 2nights so had only taken 2 changes of clothes!
I immediately contacted the Duty Manager (Alex) who said he was unable to comment as only the Duty Manager & housekeeping had keys & as housekeeping had left for the day. He said he would speak to housekeeping the following morning.
The restaurant service was faultless for dinner that night & indeed breakfast the following morning.
Alex spoke to us as we checked out & advised that the person he needed to speak to wasn’t on duty, so he took our contacted details & said he’d be in touch.
What could have been an enjoyable weekend has been completely marred by this theft – whether it be a member of staff or guest (although no signs of damage to the door which automatically locks on closing).
Where ever we stay, we always leave no valuables in our hotel room – but clothing? What are guests expected to do? My top wasn’t an expensive item, but was obviously very easy to hide & had I have worn it on the first evening I wouldn’t have noticed it missing until we’d returned home by which time I’d have thought it was me who’d left it in the room!
I now wait to hear from the hotel.
