“Great location”

We stayed in the Mecure Hotel in Nottingham's Lace Market on 11th feb 2012. Having previously stayed in the Lace Market hotel nearby and been impressed, we looked at the Mecure after the Lace Market put their price up by £30 overnight.

I booked the hotel on laterooms.com and got a standard double room for £89 including breakfast for 2, saving about £30 off the hotels direct booking price.

We arrived at about 5pm and were allocated room 417. The room
itself was quite small although not cramped and had great features including flat screen tv, complimentary tea and coffee, iPod docking station which accepted the iPhone. The wardrobe has a decent sized safe and the room is air conditioned with easy to use controls (despite other reviews to the contrary). The bathroom is small but well equipped with an excellent shower.

The hotel advertises free wifi that I could not to work on my iPhone. It just kept opening a 'connect' page that went blank. As we werent staying in the actual hotel for long I didn't bother trying to sort it out and admittadley didn't seek help from staff to resolve the issue.

The hotel has a nice bar that although doesn't do draught beers, has a decent selection of bottles and spirits as well as a good wine list.

A nice feature is the staircase which features photographs of famous people from Nottingham which is a nice different touch.

The location is excellent with only a few minutes walk to get down to the restaurant we were going to (Jamie's Italian).

The beds are very comfortable although it was to singles pushed together. Although I know a lot of hotels do this it always leaves me a little dissapointed.

The staff are very friendly and accommodating, especially the reception staff and the ladies in the breakfast room on Sunday morning.

Breakfast is very good with a great selection of hot and cold food, cereal and fruit.

Parking in Fletcher Gate car park nearby is discounted for hotel guests and cost £7.50 for the whole night.

Overall I was impressed with the hotel and would definitely visit again and probably choose it above the lace market hotel of price was a consideration.

“First class”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

We stayed at the Mercure for one night in February 2012. This hotel is first class, and a luxury standard for circa £100. From the moment we arrived, the hotel staff were friendly and chatty, and also very helpful and informative about the local area. The room was excellent and the bar staff were much obliging and friendly even though we arrived back late and wanted a drink. The location is perfect in central Nottingham and was approx 5-10 minute walk to the Capital FM arena at a leisurely pace, and around 15 minutes walk from the railway station. There was a little street noise in the early hours (Friday night), but this is Nottingham (a favourite for stag and hen parties) and should be expected to some degree. That said, the room had good quality double glazing. Really excellent all round and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Room Tip: The bar is on the first floor, so I would recomend the second or third floors for a quieter stay.

“Ticked all the boxes!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012 via mobile

Excellent value hotel. The place was immaculately clean, great location for FM arena, helpful and friendly staff. We found the room really quiet and the bed very comfortable. The thermostat for the room worked perfectly as we can't bear a hot hotel room. All for a great price. We didn't stay for breakfast as we met family elsewhere. Can't fault it.

“Great hotel, walking distance to the Trent FM Arena”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

We chose this hotel for its close proximity to the Trent FM Arena where we had tickets to see Snow Patrol.
The hotel staff were welcoming and friendly, The room was small (standard double) but the furnishings and fittings were high standard.
Full English breakfast was buffet style, very good and well presented buffet and staff very helpful.
I would stay here again if visiting Nottingham and would recommend it.

Thank you for taking the time to post this review, we’re pleased that you enjoyed staying with us so close to the Arena. As many visitors have found, we do have a range of bedrooms in all different sizes but we’ve packed the same high level of decor and amenities into every one of them - large or small.

Chef very much likes the positive comments about the breakfast buffet and we’re pleased to hear that you would stay with us again. We look forward to seeing you when you come to see your next concert in Nottingham!

Kind regards

“Very Good Value For Money.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

Stayed here with a friend between 27-30th of Jan 2012, i'd read other reviews and though this was the best value and quality hotel in my price range ( £125 for 3 nights for 2 people ).
Unless you knwo where this hotel is it can be a bit of a trek getting to it, the train and bus stations are about 20-30 mins walking time through a busy city centre with a few road crossings, nothing too much of a problem though.

Arrived and was greeted and booked in within 2 minutes, reception is immaculately clean and tidy, and very welcoming, the staircase up to your rooms is lovely, however lifts were the order of the day for us, nice clean lift too.

Rooms are all very different, some are large and spcaious and some are rather pokey, however ours was fine with fresh smelling bedding, very clean and well polished up, large screen TV in the room, free safe to use in the wardrobe and tea making facilities in there too, hairdrier in the desk drawer, ipod/iphone dock also provided. Plenty of power points for your kit should you need them. Towels provided were fresh and plentiful, bathroom was , once again, very clean and tidy.

We were on the 4th floor, we expected some noise but were pleasantly surprised. Although the hotel is on the main intersection for busses and cars it wasnt too close to the tramns lines so noise was at a minimum, overnight noise from the local bars etc wasn't that bad either.

One of my pet peeves is the provision of aircon in rooms, its just not necessary in the UK and i don't like the noise... unfortunatley the room had one, even when it was turned off it rattled and hissed through the night, add to this the fact the room was always very warm and it was a little uncomfortable sleeping ( this could have been sorted out if we'd spent a little time messing with the thermostat but we didnt bother so i cant complain too much about this )

Rooms were cleaned every day if you requested it, room service was on offer, however £2.50 delivery charge was a bit excessive, its a lift ride not 12 flights of stairs!

Internet is provided at a cost, £7.00 for 2 hours and £14 per day rate, this is very excessive and i wasn't happy at all at being ripped off, normally the hotels we stay in provide this free, however this hotel is clearly aimed at the business person and the prices for "extras" reflected that.

All,in all we enjoyed out days and nights here, its a cut above our usual standard and we were happy with what we got.

Room Tip: request a quiet one, you usually get what you want!

Thank you for taking the time to post such a detailed review, including some great advice for people travelling to our hotel.

We are a little bit confused about your comments regarding internet pricing as we took the decision in December to provide this service complimentary for all of our guests. I’m sorry if this was not communicated clearly when you stayed at the hotel, however you can be assured that you will indeed receive free wifi the next time you stay with us which should make us feel even better value for money!

We’re very pleased that you enjoyed our in room facilities, the welcoming feel of Reception – and of course our ‘celebrity staircase’. Great hints on picking a room too which will be helpful for other travellers

Kind regards
