“average at best”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2011

as several persons have commented, whilst the few is superb the facilities are too sew for the number of campers. It was only a fraction full when we stayed yet we always had to wait at the showers/toilets so god onl knows what it must be like in summer. Also the slope on the hill is quite steep so you will have difficulty keeping things horizontal, especially youself when sleeping

“Mediocre campsite at best”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2011

I booked this because the Reviews said this was a brilliant campsite. It is unfortunately far from that. It gets the stars for it's location only, it is within easy walking of Robin Hoods Bay (down a very steep hill though) with great views over the bay. However the facilities are poor, there are clearly not enough showers for the size of the campsite - must have been over 60 tents crammed into the site when we were there and 4 showers between approximately 120 adults + kids. Nor were there enough toilets, in an effort to satisfy demand the owners have put in port-a-loos, but these were incredibly smelly and not for the faint hearted! Ok for a short stay but I would not recommend this site. One last point because it is on a hill everything is on a slope, including your sleeping bags, cooking gear, tables etc

“Just a Field Really”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2011 via mobile

While the facilities are spotless there are only 2 showers for women and 2 for men, which makes the morning rush rather interesting. The field itself is on a hill which means you either slide or roll down the bed. All in all this is a nice site (eventho it's really just a field that they have stuck some portacabin style facilities in), the staff are friendly and there is a fridge and microwave to use for free. For all those women out there like me who are panic striken without their hairdryer, there is a plug in the shower block for you to use!

“Great campsite, great location!”

Really good place to be based when exploring this area of Yorkshire - easy access on foot to the Cinder Track (disused railway track which runs along the coast) and the Cleveland Way coastal path. The site is clean, well-kept, has great facilities and has friendly owners. It doesn't allow groups (which we liked) and does allow dogs (which didn't bother us at all). There is lots of space and the views are amazing down to Robin Hoods Bay (a nice quiet bay on this coast in comparison to Scarborough and Whitby!) We walked a lot and caught the bus back one day which runs right outside the campsite and is useful for coming back when walking the coastal paths. We went the steam railway from Grosmont to Goathland one day, walking along the old rail track in the other direction, and hired bikes one day. The abbey at Whitby is worth a visit if you are into history. It was good being near Whitby for meals out but could go back to the haven of the campsite at night. We really enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Get there early in the day to get a good space.

“Beautiful setting, well kept campsite.”

We were blessed with beautiful weather, for what was mean't to be a two night stay (had to leave early, poorly child). We were so dissapointed to leave.

First of all, the view is beyond compare. the site is set on a hill, which we thought might pose problems for pitching the tent but it didn't. The atmosphere is very low key, the campsite doesn't allow groups so it's mainly families and couples. There is a field for the kids to play ball games and plenty of space for the tents.

The facilities are spot on. Plenty of fridge and freezer space, even though the campsite was full. The toilets and shower facilities were spotless and recycling of waste is promoted.
Staff were accomodating and helpful but not intrusive. The manager recommended a scenic walk into Robin Hoods Bay which we enjoyed.
We will certainly be returning.
