“Great stay in the countryside”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2010

I stayed here with my nephew for two nights (unfortunately not longer). It's a nice stone cottage with stylishly decorated rooms and a breakfast room which is also the lounge. The owners were very friendly and helpful and provided us with plenty of information. Breakfast is ample and is served between 7 and 9, so you don't have to get up at the same time every day. At night it was very quiet, so we slept well. There is a fine TV in the room and plenty of books.
The place is situated a few miles outside Hexham (a small town, but well worth a visit) and you will need a car to get there. I think public transport is not really an option.
So all in all very good and we hope to come back.

“Wonderful welcome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2010

I rang ahead to say we would be a little late checking in. We were greated right royally and out luggage transported to our comfortable room. We were invited for tea and fresh made biscuits. There was a small comfortable guest lounge if you didn't want to stay in your room. The owners were full of local information and nothing seemed too much trouble. The room was lovely and clean and the bathroom had a large shower (I hate fighting with shower curtains and not having enough room to bend and wash my feet!). We slept like babies and had a loely freshly cooked breaskfast before wending on our way. A bit of a difficult place to find (thank goodness for Satnav) but well worth the effort. It is ideally placed for visiting Hadrian's wall and Hexham is a lovely town to spend an hour or two.

“Wonderful hospitality for solo travellers.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2010

A friend and I took the two double rooms as singles. No single room supplement!!! We were met with warm welcomes from the whole family, and served with a refreshing pot of tea (yes, with the china tea set) and home-made shortbread, in a delightful guest's lounge area overlooking the lovely garden. This is a real country cottage environment, with the feel of being a guest rather than a customer. I stay in a lot of hotels in the UK and elsewhere, most (all!) of them costing many times more than this, and none of them coming near to the accommodation at Peth Head Cottage. Nothing is forgotten - every little facility you might possibly want is there for you. All this, and the delightful Northumberland countryside surrounding you. I just want to go there again as soon as possible!!

“Joan Liddle is a real gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 April 2010

Well what can I say.... from my initial contact with Joan Liddle, nothing was too much trouble. We were greeted by a lovely fresh cup of tea (served in bone china Spode cups and saucers) and a plate of home made biscuits. And this greeting was repeated every time we returned to the cottage after our various jaunts into the countryside. The delicious and fulsome breakfasts (with homemade bread), the spotless and very cosy and warm rooms and the powershow - all first class. Having avoided B&B for many years (and usually staying in 5 star hotels), this was a real gem - and if you could give 5 starts to Peth Head Cottage then we would. The location is in a very beautiful part of Hexhamshire - with pubs a mile or so either side serving excellent food (both walkable if you were so inclined). Hexham town is excellent with a good selection of well known shops - including Waitrose, Marks and Spencer and Tesco. There are several good art galleries in the area (Fi Fie Fo Fum in Newton, Balman in Corbridge and Colin Moss in Hexham.) The train station is easily accessible - and only £1.50 for all day car parking - and 30 mins directly into Newcastle city centre. Also nearby, Matfen Go Ape - great fun!

“Hope we'll be back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2008

We had only 1 night at Peth Head Cottage, but Joan was such a friendly hostess, and the location is just gorgeous, that this would be a first pick if we come back to this area (which is likely). The village of Juniper is a few kms out from the market town of Hexham, and it really seemed like we were in the "real" England, with high hedgerows and narrow country lanes, and lots of lovely old stone houses and farm buildings. Joan welcomed us with a cup of tea and some yummy homemade shortbread. Our room was huge and very comfortable and clean. Joan was very helpful with suggestions of where to eat, and we made our way to the absolutely delightful Dipton Mill Inn for an evening meal. Breakfast was great, with the Spode blue and white china a nice touch.
