Stayed with my wife for 2 nights away after Christmas. Excellent food and great to relax in the bar with a drink and paper in the afternoon. If you want local produce beautifully cooked with nice friendly service look no further.

Rooms were tidy and staff first class.

We had a visit planned to the local observatory and the staff pulled out all the stops to insure we got our evening meal in good time.

The kids were both otherwise committed at Xmas so it seemed a chance to do something different - a what a difference. From arriving on Xmas eve to leaving after watching the Boxing Day meet of the North Tyne Hunt, Celia & I had a fantastic time. The meal on Xmas Eve was sublime - probably the best lamb I've had this century! and the service was, as always splendid. Xmas Day was great the staff were cheerful and happy. None seemed at all disgruntled at working on this day. breakfast was second to none with the black pudding being particularly memorable. A long walk then a superb champagne lunch, either Xmas with all the trimmings or an alternative - I had beef - at midday. They had a second sitting for non-residents at 2pm yet, despite this, we never felt rushed. Then another long walk into a very wild & windy Northumberland before settling down to an evening in front of the roaring fire and a sumptuous Xmas buffet for residents. What a way to spend the festive season - Battlesteads really is the best hotel in the world.

This is our second New Year at Batlesteads. What a fantastic way to bring in 2012 wonderful surroundings and great rooms. All of the staff are wonderful, Andrew made us feel very special. Eddie the chef is fantastic wow what amazing food. We did the 4.5 mile walk on New Years day amongst breathtaking scenery. We are already booked for next year.
