As in the title is was intended to suggest to friends and relatives they stay here while attending a family wedding in the area (Oct '11) so we went to see what it was like. General appearance left little doubt the place was tired and bit drab although relatively clean, staff seemed pleasant enough and gave us all the info we asked for. we then decided to have a meal to 'test the water'
After a long wait 40+mins (there were only 8 people in total in the place and not all of them were there to eat) the food arrived, the steak in ale pie filling was so dry that it stuck firmly to the equally dry pastry top, it was served with soggy chips (that I suspected were reheated to luke warm from lunchtime left overs), the other meal of chicken, which to be honest was luke warm and also very dry with the 'sauce' being congealed and tasteless, went barely touched. Next table to us was served a snack but I noticed that came with a salad garnish consisting of discoloured wilted lettuce and judging by the amount of chips left on the plate when the man had finished I can only assume they were as unpalatable as those we were served.
We got chatting with a couple who were currently staying there and of course we asked their opinion..the reply was quick to the tongue and very heavy with the advice......don't let them stay here!!
Shame really as it has some spectacular views going for it and I suspect if they could be bothered to take a long hard look at what is coming out of the kitchen and find staff that CAN ACTUALLY cook they would have a very well situated business with bags of potential to double turnover.
