Got there to find the door was locked, with a phone number (the phone was switched off) to be told by the police that imagration had closed the place 2 days before we arrived. all other places full. paid in advance, long drive home. Birthday treat ruined!

Room was clean and comfortable and genuinely not as bad as many claim. Yes, it was a little tired and need modernisation but on the whole it was acceptable. I stayed here for 4 nights whilst working in the town and I've had much worse. We stayed in a large twin room with an en-suite. My only possible complaint is that the pressure in the shower was very weak. The staff were friendly and approachable and I would return. Not really the type of hotel you'd whisk your partner off to for a surprise weekend but a decent, clean place to get your head down.

We stopped here for one night, and luckly we only needed somewhere to sleep as it was vile, the place was smelly, the wallpaper was hanging from the walls, the carpets were ripped and filthy. The night we stopped the hot water was broken so had to shower in freezzing cold water. I was actually worried i might catch something from the place. Never seen a member of staff. The car park was like a dumping tip!!! Needs a very good refurbishment!!! Definitly not worth £60 a night!!! Very Bad

I must admit I was, too, a little worried before checking in but the hotel did not seem to be as bad as some of the reviews claim. We were showed to our room in the back of the hotel facing a courtyard where seemed to be the kitchen of a restaurant (either the one of the hotel or next door). The first thing you noticed after entering the room was the smell of Indian/Thai food. In the evenings when the restaurant was open you could barely keep the window open! And the smell has penetrated everywhere in the hotel - even on the carpet in hallways. Secondly, you could not miss the dust everywhere in the room. We had a room with private bathroom but not ensuite - the bathroom is located across the hallway. Sadly, the bathroom had a lot of mould and looked that it had not had a proper clean for some time. Didn't really fancy taking a bath in the bathtub... Then again, you could daily housekeeping with fresh towels!

Breakfast is being served in rather a new and modern looking restaurant. You get full English breakfast and choose yourself what you want to include in it. This, however, did not work at all because we never got the kind of breakfast we ordered during our three night stay. It also seems that they have invested more in the restuarant than in the hotel

All in all, the hotel including the room is just run down and in need of some major renovation. Yes it has a lot of character and potential to become a great hotel but a lot needs to be done. The staff, on the other hand, is really friendly and even though you do not really see them much there are there to help you! The location of the hotel is great, just opposite to the bus station and around the corner is the main shopping area (Fore St. etc).
