“My old house!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

This B&B used to be my house growing up. It used to have high ceilings and oldly wordly decor and I spent many an afternoon playing in the 'Reading Room' (bottom right room, facing the 'subway' tunnel)! My bedroom was the corner room that looks out on to the bridges and used to be woodchipped and Artexed to high heaven!

I've heard the ceilings have been lowered considerably to make it more modern. We used to like the old fashioned touches. My parents found a vintage billiard ball in a plaster board wall when they moved in in the 70s', along with an original library stamper and some written records.

It was a great coincidence when I met my now brother-in-law 2 years ago and it transpired that he and his girflriend had once stayed in my old bedroom in the B&B. They said they had enjoyed their stay. Enjoy!

“Unfriendly and no service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

As a matter of we left before the night because of the terrible lac of service. When we arrived nobody was there. After more than an hour and after several calls a young man arrived. Not very coöperative and informant. The internet did not work an for us that was very, very important. They were not able to restore it. They promised to try to repair, but after 2 hours waiting without any follow up we left after telling the same young man we had to leave. Nevethless they have taken our money and up till this moment they refuse a refund. Which we think is very, very bad behaviour.

“Lovely”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2011

My friend and I stayed on Friday 16th Sept after a wedding at Langley Castle.
The cleaner was very helpful- we arrived early and didnt have to wait long for our room to be available.
Bedroom its self was very large with a lovely power shower. We were supplied with a very large number of tea bags and were made very welcome.
Breakfast was good and they happily supplied me with an extra sausage because i dont like eggs. Overall the place was friendly and clean and i would go back if staying in area..

“Very comfortable, great breakfast ... and friendly!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 May 2011

We've just had a very nice stay at The Reading Rooms, and contrary to the previous review, we found it comfortable and friendly.

We asked if we could possibly check in early, as we had to be somewhere, and this was no problem at all. We were greeted by a very charming young man, who gave us all the information we needed and filled a little flask with fresh milk.

Next morning, a very friendly young lady prepared us a lovely breakfast, offering extra juice, coffee and toast. Very tasty bacon and sausages too.

It would appear that the owner does not live on site, but this presented us with no problem at all. The rooms are spacious and clean, and the bed linen very comfortable. Yes, it's right on a corner, but the windows are double-glazed, and we heard no traffic noise. It's a few miles out of Hexham, but a wonderful base for walking and I'd love to return.

“Noisy and unfriendly!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2010

Stayed here in January 2009 to attend a wedding at Langley Castle.

Positives: Nice clean room and very comfortable

Negatives: Booked the wedding package to ensure "late breakfast and check out" only to be told at 10:00 (quite rudely) that we should have been out before now and that we could only have our breakfast and lift back to the castle if we were quick as the owners had to be somewhere. The extra 30 pounds we had paid for the package seemed a waste.
Very noisy outside of bed and breakfast.
