“Great for the University”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

Myself and my daughter stayed at The Lime Trees for one night as we were attending the University open day. It was a great location as we could leave the car at the hotel and walk to the university in the morning. I can assure anyone that if I can get my mondeo into the car park easily then they will have no trouble! Dinner was excellent and reasonably priced. Room 37 was a little dark and dull but the bathroom was big and clean. The beds were extremely comfortable. Breakfast was good and hot. Most of the staff were very friendly. Only downside was when checking out the receptionist seemed to have a problem - I showed her my Best Western loyalty card and she said that they were locked out of the Best Western system due to a "couple of bad inspections" and if I wanted to phone Best Western then I could. I asked if the hotel was still part of Best Western as they were using the logo and advertising but she said nobody told her anything.
We would definitely stay at Lime Trees if we are in the area again.

“A lovely gem!”

We stayed here for Valentines Day, 1 night, on a bed & breakfast rate last year. On the whole, it is a beautiful hotel. The bar is cosy and warm, drinks are a little pricey but nothing terrible, and the whole place is spotless. We booked the Honeymoon suite which is wonderful. It is separate from the main hotel, on the other side of the gravel garden. You get your own stairs to walk up, leading to a lovely bedroom and bathroom with a chromatherapy jacuzzi bath, big enough for about 4 people!
There are a few minor issues however:
The bed is two singles pushed together, and not very comfy at all.
There are no personal touches; as we booked the honeymoon suite, and the hotel knew it was both Valentines Day & our anniversary, we expected something like chocolates or rose petals, or a bottle of bubble bath for the jacuzzi or something, but there was absolutely nothing like that. There wasn't even biscuits on the tea/coffee tray!
Breakfast wasn't all that great, it was a very small portion & quite greasy, plus the buffet selection was very small.
Some, but not all, of the staff were not very friendly at all, and not as welcoming as I could have hoped for.

Apart from those things though, it was a lovely hotel and the minor faults have not stopped us from booking two nights for Valentines this year!

Room Tip: The Honeymoon Suite! Mews Room 32 I believe!

“Worthwhile”

I stay at The Lime Trees 3 or 4 times a year and am always happy to do so again. Pretty fair value for money, breakfast is always good. Try and get a room in the Coach House - away from the busy and noisy main road in a seperate annex - refurbished about a year ago and still shows.

Room Tip: Coachhouse rooms quieter and newer

“Lovely hotel with attentive staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

We had our wedding here. The staff were keen to do anything to enhance our day. Sarah in particular ensured that everything went like clockwork. Many guests stayed here for 1 or 2 nights and enjoyed their stay. The hotel has a presence which is missing from all those chain hotels which are not independently owned.

“Okay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2011

1 night stay with a group.

Good.
Clean and tidy rooms with nice TV, breakfast cooked to order, bar area.

Bad.
Shower had no power whatsoever! And that for me is a deal breaker!
