“Nice hotel too many roundabouts which made the entry & exit complicated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Clean & tidy in the room expect to pay for parking though! our room was on the ground floor close to the pool so the distinctive smell of chlorine in the corridor the fire alarm went off at 1.30 am and no member of staff informed us as why? I went to the reception desk in my coat trying to disguise my pj's with no real explanation Which did make me wonder if the Hilton is up to its name.

“Utterly disgraceful treatment”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

I stayed at this hotel with a group of colleagues. The price quoted to us for dinner, bed and breakfast seemed reasonable, but when we saw the restaurant menu in the evening, we discovered that it would have been cheaper to book bed and breakfast and pay for dinner seperately. I drew this to the hotel's attention, and to all intents and purposes, their response was to accuse me of being a liar. When I sent a second email complaining about this, they simply failed to respond at all.

The wine list in this hotel is over-priced to such a degree that it literally made us laugh. The hotel tried to defend this by saying that their wine prices were comparable to those in hotels of a similar calibre. This statement in itself contained the patronising assumption that we did not regularly stay in hotels of quality. Again, complaints about being patronised in this manner received no reply.

The food we did receive was edible, but unimaginative. The rooms were large and comfortable, but extremely dated, and the use of the leisure facilities was a welcome bonus. However, the overall impression was of a place that will do anything it can to extract the maximum amount of money of you for the minimum effort. Bottles of water in the rooms were £4.00!

I can only echo the other negative reviews of this establishment and suggest that getting a kebab and sleeping in your car would be a more pleasurable and less offensive experience.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of the Hilton Northampton following your stay with us in November 2011. I am most disappointed to learn that your experience was less than satisfying, for this please accept my sincere apologies.

With regard to your comments about our Wine Tariff, our pricing strategy for wine does fall in line with most other hotels of our calibre. I am sorry you feel that we are over priced. I have investigated your comments regarding your Dinner, Bed & Breakfast Rate and I can confirm that within the rate there is a £15.00 charge for dinner and £10.00 charge for breakfat per guest.

I am sorry for any misunderstanding you have had on this matter and I hope I have been able to clarify our pricing policies and hope to be able to welcome you back to the Hilton Northampton in the near future.

Kind Regards,
Jacky Jowers

“Nice bed.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

person found this review helpful

The only good thing about this place is the bed which is lovely. Everything else is awful. From queing to get into breakfast for 10 minutes, to its position not in northampton but on the m1. The bar is dreadful and the rooms very tired. The corridors echo into your room which is inadequately soundproof. My tv control had had the batteries stolen but when i picked up my phone to call reception i found they hadnt opened the line, i couldnt face the walk back which was a long one as i arrived late at 11pm. Simply awful.

“Why cant Hilton get their food offering right?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

Stayed mid week on business. Rooms are standard Hilton but it seems the restaurants in this and other Hiltons are not comparable with the accommodation. My experience last night was as follows:
Sat down and waited 10 minutes for a menu, but did have a drink order taken and delivered. Good job i had a book to read. Only brought the set menu which did not inspire me. After a wait i asked if there was any other menu? There was an a la carte menu which was brought. Not sure why this wasnot offered in the first place. Now here comes the surprise: On opening the menu i was tempted with summer dishes. This was advertised as the summer menu. Not sure if you know this but it is now January. Also the VAT rate was noted as 17.5% so maybe it is a summer menu from 2010? So much for menu rotation and seasonality! I checked with the waiter and she informed me it was the current menu.
I was not offered a bread roll while others were. Two single customers walked out as they were ignored after being sat at a table.
The food was ok, steak cooked as liked. Standard hotel food here but the athmosphere and service not acceptable at these prices.
When i asked for my bill the lady advised my starter was complimentary as the service that night had not been good and i had had to wait longer than expected. This was a nice touch and she seemed genuinely concerned, but as i am on an expense account i would have prefered better service than a reduction in price.
This Hilton is not near any other places to eat without getting in the car.
Come on Hilton, hospitality is your main and only business, you need to improve on your restaurant offerings.
