I had doubts about getting to Althorp, but took the hour long train out to Northamshire followed by about a 15 minute taxi ride and had no problems going or coming. The grounds were lovely and the stable and estate house impressive. The 300 acre estate had been in the Spencer family for 500 years. Diana used to tap dance for hours in the entry hall to the home. The home and grounds give an excellent perspective on what it is like to be English aristocracy. The display of personal artifacts especially from her childhood is spellbinding to all Diana fans. The wedding dress with all the accessories were breathtaking. Her dress collection was fabulous. A visit to the lovely round oval burial site was sad, however. If you are a Prince Diana fan, visiting here is a absolute must. Unfortunately, it took me 14 years to make my pilgimage here from Dallas, Texas after her untimely death, but I am glad I did. I admire the way she grew so much in her role transforming from a nanny to a cultural icon who redefined the role of the modern princess. On the negative side, there is not much selection in the gift shop and they were out of nearly all the nicer items such as the china.
