“Didn't get to stay”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

I can't comment on the guest house itself. I never got the chance to stay there.

I booked on-line a while ago for a few days in February. I received a call from someone yesterday morning saying that "a computer virus" had put up the wrong prices on the website and that it would be another £25 a night. For that money I could book somewhere with a far better review, so I cancelled.
I checked the site again and saw that the place had been fully booked the night before. So my guess is that they had overbooked and tried just to get more money. Nice way to do business, NOT. I won't be trying to stay there again.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere better for the same money.

“Great Location...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

Myself and my partner stopped this weekend for 2 nights to see in the New Year in York.

The B and B is in a perfect location - right on the river and 5 minutes walk from the City Centre really. It doesnt have its own parking - but the owners gave us discount parking tickets (£5 a day). The owner also greeted us on arrival and showed us up to our room (we were an hour earlier than check in - but wasnt a problem).

We had one of the attic rooms - which was clean and fairly modern - but as previously stated just needs a lick of paint in places etc. The website really isnt accurate and has been done well - but its by no means an awful room. We slept well, the bed was comfy and the facilities were clean and working well - except for wobbly taps.

The owners partner(?) assisted with breakfast each morning while he cooked. The breakfast itself and the meals cannot be faulted at all! In our experience the owners appeared to live on site, do all the cooking and cleaning and reception. They were friendly, helpful and chatty. The choice of breakfast was also good (i like food).

Overall we couldnt expect to pay much less at New Year - and would probably go back again if we stayed in York. Id like to see a little money spent in, what could be, a GREAT b and b.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the river at the front.

“Needs a spruce-up”

This place certainly looks good in the photographs online and the location is excellent. Over the river from the train station and along the river from the centre of town. Close to restaurants and car parking. I understand that the owners do not live on-site and that is obvious. The garden needs attention and could look wonderful. I arrived and was greeted by a nice young European woman who helped me with my case as I was on the top floor. Then I didnt see too much of her or her partner at all !

My room was fine, but the floor was definitely on an angle, and I couldnt get the shower to work. The acting manager helped with that and in the end it proved to be the most powerful shower I had in my month holiday in England. However upon closer inspection, the bathroom was grubby and needed a good clean. The bedroom was fine and had some nice features, however it did overlook a busy parking site.

I also had a noisy family next door but that can't be helped and it was mid-term break.

However, breakfast was great and I do have some food intolerances. I was accommodated without a problem.

Just a curious stay really. Felt unsure who was managing the place and would have felt better knowing that someone was there all the time rather than being absent. I think this place has great potential. Just need to spend a bit more on it. Having said that I did sleep well and didnt have any major dramas apart from leaving with the room key and having to send it back from London. Apologies again !

Room Tip: Possibly overlooking the river. The carpark side was noisy but fine at night

“york weekend stay ;)”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

my partner and i stayed here weekend of halloween , when the light show was on.
the b & b was nice ,and pleasent , breakfast was lovely , plenty of choice.
we stayed in one off the rooms of which the toilet was seperate, the room was comfy but compact, this is the only reason i would ask for a different room at the front if we were fortunate to stay again, we could of had a top floor room but my partner is over 6ft hense this wouldnt be appropriate .

we would stay again .......we would try and get one of the front 1st floor bedrooms this time with an ensuite.
this b & b is on the in a pretty setting and is ideal location being close to all york as to offer.
.

Room Tip: we were on the back of the property overlooking the main carpark .please dont be put off by this its...

“Magical B and B - Definately going back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

Me and my boyfriend stayed here for my 21st birthday and it was amazing. The staff were so friendly and helpful and as soon as we arrived they made us a cup of tea and had a chat about where to visit in york. The rooms were so cosy and the view from the room was beautiful. It was a great breakfast in the morning and a quiet nights sleep. It was a magical stay, like something from an old english novel. Definately going back!

Room Tip: Rooms with a river view are so peaceful and beautiful.
