“Good location and very reasonable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

We stayed at this hotel to visit York St John University. It had the better write up of the Travelodges in and around York. It was comfortable and warm with very large rooms - although they did look like something was missing out of them, could easily accommodate a third bed if needed - probably what was missing. The rooms were very clean and the bathrooms were fine and appeared fairly recently renovated. There was tea/coffee makings. The rooms are functional, but what do you expect for £29. This lodge is attached to the Black Bull pub where we had an evening meal and breakfast - both were very reasonably priced and good food with friendly and helpful staff. We will stay here again next time we visit our daughter.

“Great Value Stay In One Of England's Finest Citys”

This turned out to be a first-class Travelodge. The standard of house-keeping in the massive room I occupied was highly commendable. Parking arrangements are plentiful and sufficient. Through-access to the Sizzlers pub was convenient and the pub offered a good array of ales (try the Yorkie Ale - seriously good pint). It proved an excellent base for an overnight stay, combining a business and social elements. From there, I had easy access to the ancient battlefields of Fulford and Stamford Bridge from 1066 and to Towton.

Would definitely be a place I'd be happy to lodge at in future.

I recognize nothing from ImgUk's review - they must have been unlucky with their room. I wonder why they didn't complain or ask to move to another room? And, as for "The hotel is not within walking distance of the city centre but only a short drive." Well, having lived and worked in York for 2 years, let me assure first time visitors that getting into the City centre by car is an act of lunacy. Another reviewer (GR3G66) was able to walk into town in about 30 minutes; if one-and-a-half miles each way is too challenging a walk, there is a bus stop a few yards from the Travelodge.

Thanks, Travelodge, Hull Rd York - you're just right for me.

Where to start, we got a great deal on this hotel and stopped for 3 night at £12 a night! Absolute bargain!!
The hotel is about 1.5 miles from the centre which we walked every time we went into York took about 30 min we never used the car once whilst there which was a great bonus.
The travelodge is also connected to sizzling pub which as another reaso for stopping here, there food is awesome and it was a overall a nice pub good selection of drinks and I don't even have to go outside to get to it from the hotel.
The staff were very helpful and even provided us with plates and cutlery when we ordered a Chinese to be delivered there. Over all I great holiday I would defiantly stay there again!!

“Budget hotel = budget rooms”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

This was booked at a very low price so can't really complain. The rooms are very, very basic and suface clean. The bed however was one of the most uncomfortable beds I have ever slept in. The hotel is not within walking distance of the city centre but only a short drive. Overall you get what you pay for.

“Good base for short York stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

This travelodge lodge has only recently been taken over by the company, previously it was an InnKeepers lodge so some parts have been updated recently.
On arrival it is very easy to find, in the dark on a busy road I was expecting problems but if you just look out for the sizzling pub sign of the Black Bull pub, its joined on to it. As you turn in, the pub can be a bit crowded but follow the road a hundred yards and there's a really big car park for the travelodge users that wasn't even half full (midweek).
When I reached check in I was seen to within seconds and was in my room probably a minute after getting out the car, I really appreciated that after a long day on a work related trip.
The room although booked as a single was massive! Clearly the extra space is for bringing in a sofa bed, cots or camp beds. It seemed such a waste of a room to have nothing in half of it but at least it created a bit of a sound buffer and it kept the draft from the window away from the bed (it was extremely windy that night though!)
The bathroom was very clean, with a big shower and loads of hot water. I did read reviews that the pressure is really bad, i've got long hair and rinsing it wasnt really a problem so I think most could cope. The storage is a little strange, looks like a built in cupboard that should have sliding doors on but doesnt, can look a bit messy but livable im sure!
I borrowed things from reception such as a hairdryer, there wasn't a wait they seemed to have enough to go around. I had hand soap in my bathroom, travelodges do not supply toiletries but i would think for hygiene reasons soap should always be supplied, some reviews say they didn't have any. If my room hadn't I would definately have gone to reception and say it needs supplying.
The bed was comfortable and actually a king size which was great for travelling alone and had extra pillows.
The only thing I noticed was that the carpets and curtains have been updated and very clean but the headboard and bedding was slightly older and the duvet cover had a hole in. I'd say I had the best nights sleep I'vd had of any business trip.
Apart from the odd update here and there I really cant fault it as a base for a short stay, its less than 5 minutes drive to the city walls yet benefited from less noise and plenty parking. I'd definately recommend for a budget stay for the price.
