“An excellent example of a B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Ashbourne House accepted a one night booking on a Saturday which immediately set it apart from just about everywhere else in York. Put that aside we also met Paul and Julie for the first time and am very sure it won't be the last! They were our perfect hosts, nothing was too much trouble and we were able to check out a little later which was really helpful. The whole house was well decorated, well kept, clean and tidy and above all relaxed and friendly.

Breakfast was fantastic, chosen the night before which was very useful and times were not restrictive, well not for us.........A definite place to stay in York with a pleasant walk along the river into the centre

“Decent b & b nice breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012 via mobile

Went to Ashbourne house for one night at the end of January with friends. Nice place, clean & tidy with a lovely breakfast. The walk to the town was about 20 mins along the river. Taxi from the station was about £6, but we enjoyed the walk.

“Lovely place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in York, this was largely due to the gorgeous accommodation and friendly atmosphere at Ashbourne House. The hosts were very welcoming and always provided service with a smile. We were well informed about York attractions and the local pubs. The walk into town was short and sweet, even in the snowy conditions. But most of all we really loved having the varied choice of breakfast on a morning - the porridge is to die for and of course we sampled the hearty cooked breakfast! Another nice touch was the toastie warm power shower. We would definitely stay here again - a boutique style b and b, for a wonderful price. Thanks for a memorable 40th birthday break.

“Fantastic Stay at Ashbourne House”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Had a fantastic stay in York at Ashbourne House. We arrived in a cold and wet January, but don't ever let the weather put you off. A bit about the guest house, great location - easy to find and easily within a good walk to the centre - either down the road or the more scenic route along the river. Both took about 20 minutes. We booked over the telephone , and if the truth be told it was because of Paul that we decided to book. He helped us out a lot with ideas of what to do and where to eat. Our room was very quite (one of the criteria I had asked for) with a fantastic shower. Breakfast and service could not be faulted. Why would we now stay anywhere else!,

York it's self is amazing. Fantastic atmosphere with what appears to be centuries of history. The castle museum is spot on, you will never be short of things to do. We stayed for 3 nights and could have easily stayed longer. Abundance of restaurants all within walking distance. Probably one of our favourite cities in the Uk

Room Tip: If you want a really quite room - room 2

“A nice stay in York”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

We stayed at this welcoming B&B on a cold Feb 3 and 4. The place is about 20 mins brisk walk along the river from York centre and, on a nice day, it is a lovely walk. It was very cold when we were there but we still managed it on Day 1 albeit the snow on Day 2 made for a cold time generally and we couldn't face the walk back on the 2nd night.

The welcome from the hosts is friendly and good and they do what they can to make you feel welcome. We had a room on the top floor. The room was appointed nicely albeit relatively basic and not over lavish. It was very clean. With temperatures outside at minus 5, even with the heating up to the max, when we returned on day 2, it was still cold. However, it definitely warmed up during the night. Maybe we were just cold when we got back from a cold night out. Our bathroom was next door and this would not have been our preference. We would have preferred an en suite. The bathroom was dated albeit very clean. The ceiling was low over the bath and meant that you couldn't easily stand to use the hand shower albeit you wouldn't anyhow as there was no screen. I prefer showers so had to make do with a bath. The towels were lovely and fluffy but too small.

Breakfast was terrific and beautifully presented. You couldn't fault that.

We were made to feel very much at home and this is a good B&B if you want somewhere not too far from York but not central.

Room Tip: If you want an en suite, don't go for Room 5
