We stayed for a weekend in November booking through the Visit York website. We specifically booked a room with a bath and even sent an E-mail saying that if this was not possible then we would like to book alternative accomodation. However when we arrived the owners said that they had no knowledge of this and said that the E-mail had not been passed onto them. They even told us that they had us down for a room with a bath but for some unknown reason they moved us to one without! We obviously realised that there was nothing we could do but accept the room we were given,it was nice enough but on the small side.We though tmaybe we would be offered a small discount because of the inconvenience but disappointingly we were not, although we were told that if we we returned we may be upgraded to the 4 poster room,we will probably take them up on that!
Despite this I would recommend St Mary's as it is in a great location, just a few minutes walk away from York Minster, city centre and the river.Breakfast is fantastic, great choice of cereals fresh fruit and juice, yoghurt etc...followed by an enormous full English. You had to be down by 9am though, which is typical of most of this type of place in this country,it all seems geared to the owners rather then their paying guests, something I've never understood.
There is a small car park at the rear of the hotel, which was full when we arrived, but the owner provided us with a pass to park around the corner which was fine.
