My partner and I stayed in York for three days to see the historic sights - during our stay, our hosts Ken and Sue and their son did their uttermost to make us feel welcome and help us out with anything we needed and asked for.
Really nice to feel genuinely welcome and staying in such a "homely" atmosphere. The guesthouse is situated a 10 minute easy walk out of central York in a nice street with plenty of restaurants, shops, etc. Our room was nice, clean and quiet, and breakfast (buffet and cooked breakfast if you ask for it the night in advance) was very nice.
We only had a few minor points where we felt the guesthouse could do a little better - our bathroom was tiny, literally closet-sized. It would be difficult for a big/over-weight people to use the facilities, and it required significant physical force to open/shut the bathroom door.
Also, we found it a bit strange that towels were not exchanged during our stay and basic amenities (shampoo, etc.) were not replaced, when they were used up. Finally, the B&B says they have free wi-fi - they do, theoretically, but the signal in our room (#1), at least, was very weak, so it only worked from time to time for us.
I am sure that our hosts would have remedied all of this had we brought it up with them, but considering that we paid what equals the price of a standard stay in a three-star hotel in the UK, such issues should be sorted out as a matter of routine. But all in all, a very pleasant stay, and we would definitely stay here again.
