Bruce is just lovely, wonderfully accommodating and unbelievably helpful and has an endless wealth of knowledge to make your stay so enjoyable.

We were running quite late on arrival due to car troubles and traffic; when we arrived Bruce was waiting for us and moved his car in order that we were able to park close to the house.

The Guest House is perfectly central with easy access to all areas of the city, its very homely and the room clean and comfortable - we would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting York looking for a central base and will certainly be returning.

We arrived a day before new years eve and wow! A five minute walk from the local pub and about 10 minutes from York city center. Bruce was amazingly helpful, pointing out places of interest on a map he had, always willing to stop for a chat, he is a true gent. His breakfasts are very nice as are the Alaskan waffles....bring your camera to breakfast! Id recommend it to anyone, in my opinion, there shouldnt be any review below 3/4 stars on here!

“A warm welcome in York”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2011

A wonderful example of American hospitality in a British setting. Bruce is a West Coast American married to a British woman who runs this guest house with warmth, enthusiasm, attention to detail and and the big hearted, genuine friendliness more commonly associated with the American Mid-West (a generation or two ago ..). Rooms are small but tidy, well equiped (good mattresses), the small items (coffee, cookies, towels etc) in generous supply. Very generous(English) breakfasts ... don't miss the Alsacan waffle.

Stayed at Romley House very recently - room was on the small size but there was only the two of us - you don't spend much time in your room anyway!!!
We had an afternoon at York Races - Wonderful, then the next day site seeing also wonderful as York is such an interesting city.
Breakfast was really filling, nicely cooked and presented and of course Bruce's waffles - nice touch. Bruce is very charming and informative and seems to enjoy people. We were made very welcome and would certainly visit again.
