“Great location,Beware of Elephant !!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Just arrived back from 3 day break which was very enjoyable. Only complaint would be not enough sound proofing between 1st & 2nd floor for 1 night only i think we had a ghost of an elephant above us stomping around most of the night. That apart we got it at the saver rate so can't complain £140 for 3 nights bed and breakfast in the middle of York. Only 10 mins walk to most city centre attractions with plenty of eating and drinking places along the way.If you use the car park around the block it is locked up inside overnight at a cost of £8.50 per 24 hours.

Room Tip: Ask for top floor to avoid the elephant.

“Fabulous...until fire alarm goes off!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012 via mobile

Fab location, easy to find, 5mins walk to city centre. Room clean and comfy although light is either too bright (lights on) on too dark (lights off) with nothing in between. Wetherspoons well placed over road for cheap breakfast! Only (major) issue we had was someone arriving back at 3am Sunday morning and setting off fire alarm! Evacuation to car park was managed wel by guests but staff were nowhere to be seen. Return to building 10mins later and returned to bed only for alarm to go again before stopping...repeat every 30secs for an hour! Staff on reception gave no apologies and only explanation was drunken guest who'd been thrown out (quite how this works when there are multiple ways into hotel I'm unsure!). Next morning we checked out and saw sheet of paper apologising, but no automatic offer of refund...this had to be specifically requested despite "great nights sleep guarantee". So...great location and good room..but don't expect them to be proactive if something goes wrong!

“Rowdy Drunks or Druggies Next Door?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

Staying in budget accommodation close to a city centre can mean that sometimes others staying in the same accommodation will come in at 0407hrs in a rowdy and perhaps drunken/drugged state intent on shouting and making as much noise as possible. We had this happen to us when three individuals were located in the next bedroom (206). These three seemed intent on banging and shouting for the next hour or so after they arrived back at this Premier Inn in the early hours. With a very disturbed nights sleep, the next morning we went to reception to complain and were told the the offenders would be leaving that day and hopefully the problem should not arise again. We were asked if we would like another room, but there seemed little point in moving if these three characters were leaving. We have stayed at this Premier Inn in the past and have never encountered this type of behaviour, but it does demonstrate what can be experienced in this type of accommodation. Once a card giving access to the buildings has been issued, anyone can come and go with their mates without the separately located reception having any idea about what is going on. The CCTV cameras seemed to be pointing in the wrong directions. One does wonder what the fire risk is, with characters like these staying in an adjacent bedroom. This experience is not a good reflection on this Premier Inn and maybe others that are used by those who are intent on behaving in this manner. It is difficult to see how, but something should be done to avoid others having the misfortune to experience what we did. At breakfast the staff in the restaurant all seemed to know what had gone on during the night, but did say it does not happen very often at York.

Room Tip: Try to avoid bedrooms with drunks next door!

“Well located”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

My wife and I stayed for a Saturday night for a weekend break. This hotel is only a short walk away from town centre shopping and site seeing.A small carpark is located behind the hotel and a bigger one just around the corner, both are pay and display but you can get discount from hotel for 24hr parking. The room was clean and a good size,Breakfast was a as much as you can eat buffet. There are plenty of places to eat and drink right on the door step if you want to venture out, although the hotel as a lively bar and restaurant. The only negative was the room did not have a in room safe.We would definitely stay here again.

“Ideal for visiting York”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights in January 2012. We were returning from a 2 week holiday abroad and decided to take a couple of days in York before we returned home. This hotel is the ideal spot to park up and explore the city on foot, as everything is on the doorstep.
The rooms are of a good size, reasonably furnished, and very clean. One observation I would make is that we have travelled abroad fairly far and wide, and all the hotels we have stayed in including budget types usually have a safe deposit within your room, and all we guests do normally have some form of valuables that require being kept in a safe place. I don't know if their reception offered the facility, I did'nt ask, but it is more convenient to have your possessions to hand in the room.
The reception staff were very friendly, helpful, and cooperative, as were all other staff we encountered during our visit.
We had breakfast both days we were there, and the food was excellent, cooked to order, and warm, something you don't always get, we had one evening meal and again this was very good. The restaurant and bar area are very well presented, comfortable, and relaxing, in addition there is a Costa coffee bar which again is very comfortable to relax in.
Yes we would recommend this hotel to anyone, and we also felt it is very good value for money, we would return again.
