We stayed at The Groves for three nights towards the end of January for a weekend stay in York.
We booked the hotel based mainly on some of the reviews that we had seen on here and were not disappointed. The price was also very reasonable I felt for what we got for our money.
The ample parking was a great to see on arrival and then we received a warm welcome as we entered the hotel and the check-in was very easy. The gentleman on reception carried one of our bags and showed us personally to the room making sure that everything was as we would have hoped. The trip was organised to celebrate my wife's birthday and so I had organised for some flowers and chocolate to be in the room for her through the hotel booking system. These were both much better than I had hoped for with a very full, colourful bunch through a local supplier and very nice chocolates.
The room was very nice and spacious with a large comfy bed, clean big bathroom, large TV and ample storage space for our clothes etc.
The hotel was only a ten minute walk straight into the town centre on the Minster side of the city which was excellent. We spent a lot of time walking around the city but knowing the hotel was close by was a bonus for us!
The breakfast was very good with fruit, cereal and juice available on a help yourself basis with a wide variety of hot options available to be freshly cooked. The service in the restaurant was very good and they were always happy to offer additional toast and fresh tea and coffee.
The hotel had a bar which stayed open until 11pm which was ideal for a nightcap as well.
Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel for a comfortable stay and as an ideal base from which to explore York and everything the city has to offer.
