My boyfriend and I spent a night at the Travelodge York Central in January 2012 and found it to be suitable as a base from which to explore the city, but not great for anything more. The hotel is basic, but that's to be expected considering the cost. Often even in basic hotels though I find little extras, attention to detail, which make the stay that little bit more special. However, in this hotel it was the lack of attention to detail and the complete absence of anything special that left me feeling a bit underwhelmed. The bedroom and bathroom were both spacious and the bed was comfortable enough for a night, which I why I consider it a good option for a place to rest your head when visiting York. On the downside though, the bathroom was not very clean, having a dusty floor with someone else's cotton wool balls on it, no shower curtain for an over-bath shower, and a radiator towel rack that had broken away from the wall at the top, meaning that it has to be disconnected for safety. We were provided with a kettle but limited to two teabags and a couple of milk pots, meaning that we could only have one cup of tea each, which I thought was a bit stingy. The view from the room was of the central courtyard/parking, so could have been worse but could have been better too, given the proximity of Clifford's Tower. One of the plus points of staying here is that you get discounted parking at the nearby Q-Park, which seems very secure, although you cannot leave and then return using the same ticket, which I think you might be able to do at the Travelodge York Central Micklegate. The location of the hotel is not bad either for a more budget hotel - just a short walk from the centre.
