“weekend stay with our dog”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Im going to start my review by saying that Ascot House is a lovely guest house and its staff are very helpful and friendly. Our room was on the ground floor and suited our needs. It is perfectly situated for the city centre even though we didnt walk in but drove. Breakfast was extensive and the times were very clear and printed in several places so you couldnt forget. The car parking was the only difficulty we had as there seemed to be redecoration work going on and vans were parked in the car park so we had to park on the street. When i stay somewhere i like information to hand as i don't like disturbing people to keep asking questions, as a dog owner i would have liked a little more information in the room regarding the dogs do's and don't's,where to go for a walk and maybe a little welcoming touch for the dog like a biscuit and also a tray to put their bowls on as i wouldn't put mine on a carpet at home and felt bad doing so in the room.
my final point would be the warmth of the room i am quite a cold person anyway but there was quite a draft coming through the windows and i also realized that during the night the heating was turned off, i would prefer that the radiators had controls on so each room could control there own heating as im sure i would have had mine on as it was freezing outside. I would stay here again without a doubt.

Room Tip: if you want a seperate shower make sure you ask ours had a bath with a shower over it

“Really nice”

Only stayed one night (Saturday 07/01/12) but found this place to be everything as described. The gentleman on the desk allowed us to check in early with no fuss and supplied us with a map and some useful information and suggestions about the city centre. Room in general and particularly the bathroom were spotlessly clean and there was a bath with plenty of hot water and powerful shower as requested.
Breakfast was delicious, service was friendly and low-key. Juices were lovely and the tea was Yorkshire. No messing.

In the interests of balance the bed was ever so slightly hard for my personal taste and the telly was slightly small in the room but I had to think hard to come up with any negatives (plus, the telly in our house is daft large so my perception is somewhat skewed these days)

10/15 minute walk into town was pleasant. Plenty of space to park your car securely.

Would recommend.

Lee, Leicester

Room Tip: Room 2 is on the ground floor and has a bath and an outlook onto a private garden

“Christmas at Ascot House.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2011

My wife and i have just enjoyed a wonderful stay at Ascot house, everything about the place is first class. We have stayed in many B&Bs and hotels in York over the last 10 years but for all round value for money the Ascot will take some beating. looking forward to staying there again in the near future.
