I stayed at this hotel with my Husband in January 2012 while we were in York celebrating our birthdays. We originally booked for 2 nights but on our way to York we decided to stay for 3 so we asked when we checked in if that was possible and they said it was although the room that we had been allocated for our first 2 nights was a family room which they needed on the 3rd night so we would have to switch rooms. This was not a problem for us. The room we originally stayed in was a huge room with a large en-suite which was very nice although it was very dated and although it was clean it still appeared to be grubby as the decor was so dull. We paid £45 per night for the room including breakfast which I thought was very good value although the rooms were advertised at £160 per night which I thought was ridiculous! I would hope if you had paid that price that you would have got more for your money than we did. The room was at the front of the hotel on a main road so was quite noisy all night as the double glazing was probably 30 years or more old. The breakfast was pretty basic although for £45 I thought it was pretty good value, would have been horrified if I'd been served that and paid more! On the first morning I mistook the mushrooms for prunes when they arrived! They were black and shrivelled which is why I avoided them the next day! The poached eggs were perfect but the coffee was cheap and tasted awful. I enjoyed the use of the pool but the bar prices scared us away! On the whole I would return to this hotel if the whole place was given a make-over as the location was fab and the free parking was an added bonus. The majority of the staff were nice and friendly although it was obvious that one or two of them did not enjoy working there.
