“The Time Warp”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

Pictures on the web site make this place look great, sadly the hotel is dated and could do with a revamp. The room was nice but very hot even with the window open all night, Bathroom was abit grubby. The pool was a bonus, nice and clean, hotel bar on saturday night was empty also there was nobody around to serve drinks ? The breakfast was good but we had to sit on a table the size of a postage stamp, thus having to stack cups, toast wrack, jams and other table items on top of each other. All in all this hotel was very quiet, very dated, not the worst by far but not worth £145 a night. This might seem like a bad review but its not its just a warning not to blow good money on a hotel that should be priced at £70 a night.

“All Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

Very pleasantly surprised by this hotel, room was very nice, clean, a good size, and had everything that was needed for an overnight stay. Extras also on offer from reception, a lot of effort seemed to have gone into making sure anything you could possibly think of was available if required.
Breakfast was good and all served to you at your table, the staff very all helpful and polite. We didn't get chance to use the pool, but that also looked very inviting. Convenient for walking into centre of York. Would definitely stay here again.

“Enjoyable visit to York”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

Loved our trip to York. So much culture, sights and history, we really could have stayed longer!

The hotel itself is a short walk into the city, which we enjoyed, although buses do come by regularly. The place could do with a bit of TLC although the bedrooms seem to have had a half-refurb recently, where some of the room seemed modern and other parts old.

The room was basic, but very clean and was well-serviced each day. The tea tray was a bit sparse, but we were out much of the time so it wasn't a problem.

We had an enjoyable meal in the restaurant on one of the nights and breakfast was very good quality too, with plenty on offer. Service was prompt and staff were very friendly.

I noted that it was sometimes difficult to find any staff, especially at reception, where you had to wait a while for somebody to come.

We generally enjoyed our stay however, and can certainly recommend a visit to York.

“Trip to York”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2011

Drove up the road and could not believe my eyes the Kilima Hotel looked really delipidated. When the picture were taken which are on the web is any one's guess. The whole front of the hotel needs refurbishing as does the rest of the hotel. The furnishings are really out of date which is a pity as the staff are so friendly and helpful. The cook produced really excellent, different, breakfasts which were served by a very pleasant waitress.

The manager of the hotel should instruct one of his staff to get a broom and give the whole front of the hotel a clean. The dirt was coming in the front door and it is not a pleasant aspect of this hotel, in fact had we not booked and paid i would have driven straight on as I could not believe what I saw and expect a cleaner aspect.

Room Tip: Do not be fooled and taken in with the pictures on the web they must have been taken in the 1960s.

“Once again an enjoyable stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2011

We have stayed at this hotel a few times, in the past (year 2008).

However, this stay at this hotel was not planned on this occasion, due to most of the hotels being fully booked due to the racing at York.

We had booked a Guest House for 2 nights as a last minute trip to York with our 8 year old before going back to school. However, unfortunately after only one night stay at the guest house, due to works being carried out on the railway at the back of us ALL night AND early hours of the morning, with none of us getting any sleep and with no warning given from the guest house owners even though the owner had been given a letter the week before, we decided to check out as we couldn't cope with another night of no sleep.

I phoned the Kilima direct and they had a family room available. We were given a four poster bed and separate room for my son. As always room lovely and clean with tea & coffee etc. Staff all polite. We had a lovely nights sleep and breakfast was fresh and hot.

Yes it is not near to York town centre as some other hotels but we welcomed the walk after all the cream teas etc we have eaten. Management you should be proud of your staff and please keep up the good work.
