“Great location, nice room.”

This hotel is right on the edge of the City walls, just a 5 minute stroll to York Minster and the historic shopping streets including the Shambles. Close to the town centre and restaurants this is an ideal base for exploring York.
We booked via Late rooms and got a very good deal including full english breakfast. This is a buffet breakfast and you can eat as much, or as little as you like. Our room had a kingsize bed and was very comfortable, Mira shower in the en suite and flatscreen tv on the wall, (only free view channels though). Free onsite car parking meant we just left the car in situ. Remember to shop around the internet for deals, prices for the same room can vary greatly. Our room was on the second floor and overlooked the courtyard, very quiet.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the courtyard are quiet, away from the road, with french windows that open fully...

Thank you for your comments, it sounds like you have a passion for the beautiful city of York just as I do!
I am so pleased that you were had an enjoyable, comfortable stay with us, you are absolutley correct with regards to our location.. it`s so much easier to leave your car in the car park and walk for 2 mins to the centre.
Thank you for leaving your feedback and I hope others find your comments useful.

Looking forward to seeing you again soon.

Sincerely
Greg Palmer

“Excellent hotel, Excellent location, Excellent staff”

I recently organised a works dance at the Monkbar Hotel for the third time in the last ten years. As before the assistance from the hotel in organising the dance and the level of friendliness of the staff was first class.
The location is excellent only a few minutes from the city walls and everyone who attended the dance was very complimentary about not only the hotel and its location but also the friendliness of the staff.
Overall I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a quality hotel in York be it for a short stay or longer.

“Rooms need an upgrade”

The hotel is in a great location and close to the centre of York. The hotel reception is comfortable and staff very welcoming. However the rooms require updating, the one that we stayed in for two nights was dated, needed decorating and required a new bathroom.

I am so glad you enjoyed your stay with us and that you found our staff so welcoming, our people really are one of our biggest assett`s, taking customer care to heart. Whilst we are awaiting refurbishment we beleive that clean rooms, comfortable lounge areas, great food and super service can make all the difference.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback and we hope to see you again soon.

“nice to return”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Have stayed at this hotel on a regular basis over the past 10 years and it is an excellent base for exploring the city. The rooms are a bit of a mix in terms of standard and I note that a refurbishment programme is on hold at the moment. But we had a nice one (116) and although one that is 'on hold' for updating, was spacious with a comfy sofa. Pleased to say we have booked to return and hope that the hotel continues to look after loyal guests with their warm welcome and the desire that you have an enjoyable stay.

“Mr Kipper”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Return visit after three years ; this time to see the sights I was unable to previously since I caught a thousand spots and fever diagnosed as measles; at my age ! My wife and I travelled up by train and our friends drove. Arriving late with a crowded car park, reception were very helpful and allowed them temporarily to park in a disabled bay and then they were moved when space became available. We'd booked before Christmas and Magdalena on reservations was able to give us (both couples) upgrades to well ordered kingsized rooms overlooking the quiet inner courtyard of the main hotel; an added extra was a welcome back box of truffles.
Overall cheery and helpful staff both at breakfast from the friendly Julia who brought me two plates of delicious whole kippers (when I had envisaged two fillets), and at Saturday night dinner when despite there being a large party they were able to accomodate us for the good value early bird meal. Even better was the voucher in the room for a complimentary glass of wine /soft drink.Overall a very comfortable hotel and enjoyable stay in a excellent location opposite,as the name suggests, the Monkbar.

Room Tip: Rooms 203/4 overlook the courtyard and avoid road noise.
