“A lovely night away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Having previously visited the lamb and lion for a drink we decided to treat ourselves to a night over. We had room 7 on the top floor, which was worth the many stairs to be away from the bustle of the bar! The bed was big and comfy with crisp sheets and plenty of space to hang up clothes in the wardrobe.
My only niggle was that the mirror was in a very silly place (behind the bathroom door/not near any plug points), so take a good size hand mirror to do your hair in!
The breakfast was really good. We had boiled egg and soldiers, which were perfectly dippy just as we asked.
The staff are really friendly and help add to the great atmosphere in the bar area.

“Hidden Gem”

The Lamb and lion inn is a quaint little inn with a very relaxing feel. Its staff are extremely helpful and friendly. I visited this hotel for my husband 30th birthday in January 2012. We booked the deluxe room which was very apt for the surroundings of York. The room and bathroom were a very good size plenty room for our short stay there. The bed was very comfyand the power shower was very good. The location is fantastic. The inn is just inside ther city walls and only a two minute walk from York Minister. There is a garden to the rear which I cant wait to sit out in , in the summer with of view York Minister itself. We will definately be returning to The Lamb and Lion Inn very soon. This was a little surprise which completed our little visit to York.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 11 which was the deluxe room, only thing I would say is if you are staying with ch...

“Excellent food and atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

Had an excellent meal here – you could certainly find cheaper places to eat, but why be disappointed, as we were with another restaurant. The lamb hot pot was absolutely delicious and don't be fooled by the size of the serving dish – it may be small, but it's jam (lamb?!) packed with meat.

The place itself is very interesting and has quirky little rooms instead of one large room and this adds to the atmosphere. However, this also makes it more difficult to find somewhere to sit and eat, although, in fairness, I don't think we found all the rooms during our visit, but we did manage to find a table.

On the downside, the barman who served us could certainly improve his manners. Asked if we needed to make a reservation, we were told in no uncertain terms that they didn't take bookings and that we should just find a free table. Two minutes later, another customer walked in and spoke to another member of the bar staff stating that she'd booked a table and was it ready ….!!!!! So, a bit more courtesy wouldn't have gone amiss.

That aside, this is a brilliant place to eat and would highly recommend it.
