We was recommended this guest house by a friend and we're very glad we stayed here! We found the Hillcrest easily, but not the private car park, took a while for us to spot it, but got it in the end! We was greeted by the owner, Lena... She was very friendly, helpful and has a good sense of humour, felt right at home straight away. We was told everything we needed to know, i.e when the doors are locked, what time breakfast is served, etc, without having to ask anything.
Our room was number 11, we had a skylight window and a pretty good view. Room is a tad small, but not a huge issue, the rooms are very clean and tidy, which I liked most of all! The bathroom was very modern and has a pretty good shower in it too.
At night time it was very quiet, apart from one night there were some noisy guests, but all in all quite peaceful. Would have liked two pillows each on the bed, instead of one each, maybe would have slept a bit better if there were more pillows.
Absolutely cannot fault the breakfast, at all! We stayed for two nights, and two days in a row I had the full english, it was lovely, well presented and received prompt service. Before the full english you are able to help yourself to cereal, fruit and yoghurts also, which I liked, as there was a variety of food available. The guest house was full up over the bank holiday weekend and I feel that Lena and others that helped her prepare breakfast did so well in getting the breakfasts out at a swift speed.
The guest house is a fairly short walk to York centre, there are leaflets available in hallway to give guests ideas of where to visit for the day, which I thought was helpful. I would definitely recommend this guest house to anyone that wants to visit York, for the price per person per stay, I feel it is a very reasonable price and you get your moneys worth!
