“Very helpful service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2011

Stayed in this guest hotel 2 nights whilst in York for a wedding. Very helpful service, with Lena, the owner, recommending nearby coffee shops & restaurants, and making sure we had exactly what we wanted for breakfast. At very short notice she cleared a table, and provided coffee & tea quickly for some relatives who had decided to look me up, mid morning. All in the best traditions of customer service !

An added bonus is that there is a bus stop on the City Sightseeing Tour just 2 minutes away, which is very convenient, indeed.

“ALL ROUND GOOD VALUE B&B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2011

Stayed one night on a coast to coast cycle ride. Used a twin room and single room booked through the York Tourist Office for only a £4 fee- they found us this B&B near town centre with a lock up garage for our bikes.
Rooms were spotless and the bed's very comfortable. The proprietor was prepared to serve us breakfast slightly earlier to help us get an early start, and the breakfast was very good.

“Loved it and would definitely stay again!”

We was recommended this guest house by a friend and we're very glad we stayed here! We found the Hillcrest easily, but not the private car park, took a while for us to spot it, but got it in the end! We was greeted by the owner, Lena... She was very friendly, helpful and has a good sense of humour, felt right at home straight away. We was told everything we needed to know, i.e when the doors are locked, what time breakfast is served, etc, without having to ask anything.

Our room was number 11, we had a skylight window and a pretty good view. Room is a tad small, but not a huge issue, the rooms are very clean and tidy, which I liked most of all! The bathroom was very modern and has a pretty good shower in it too.

At night time it was very quiet, apart from one night there were some noisy guests, but all in all quite peaceful. Would have liked two pillows each on the bed, instead of one each, maybe would have slept a bit better if there were more pillows.

Absolutely cannot fault the breakfast, at all! We stayed for two nights, and two days in a row I had the full english, it was lovely, well presented and received prompt service. Before the full english you are able to help yourself to cereal, fruit and yoghurts also, which I liked, as there was a variety of food available. The guest house was full up over the bank holiday weekend and I feel that Lena and others that helped her prepare breakfast did so well in getting the breakfasts out at a swift speed.

The guest house is a fairly short walk to York centre, there are leaflets available in hallway to give guests ideas of where to visit for the day, which I thought was helpful. I would definitely recommend this guest house to anyone that wants to visit York, for the price per person per stay, I feel it is a very reasonable price and you get your moneys worth!

“Nigh on perfect !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2011

Room very comfortable and contemporary
Recently renovated including wall mounted LCD TV
Good quality handwash and shower gel provided but not shampoo
Very Very clean - Kim and Aggie would be in raptures
Bedside lamps not great for reading would be the only thing I could say that was remotely negative
Excellent bathroom - small , but perfectly formed
Staff literally could not have been more helpful
Breakfast so good it gives the Fifth Milestone Cottage ( also in the York area ) a run for its money - good quality food, healthily cooked - moist and tender sausage , minimal fat bacon and hotel standard choice
Seems to be decent parking too
We have family just around the corner so this will be our base in York from now on
Thank You so much

“Immaculate with excellent staff!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2011

We stayed here for one night so it saved us driving back home. The whole B&B is immaculate which is busy season is pretty impressive. The staff were more than attentive and the breakfast was one of the best I have had for years! The room was well equipped with flat screen T.V. Tea making facilities, hair dryer towels etc. The room on the whole was quaint (some would say pretty small) so if you intend staying a few nights I would suggest that room 8 would maybe be a little too cosy. Apart from that we will definitely be visiting again! The staff were a cut above anywhere else we have stayed in years!
