“a lovely break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2011

We stayed at the Holmleigh Guest House on the 9/10 August. We were greeted by Kev &Carol, a very nice and genuine couple who can't do enough for you during your stay. The room was spacious and absolutely spotless. The breakfast lived up to all the reviews we had read on the internet, it was marvelous. Should we visit Whitby again we would certainly stay at the Holmleigh Guesrhouse again, a lovely B&B and truly wonderful hosts. Thankyou.

“Nice B&B, but Whitby not really for us”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2011

Kev and Carole are lovely, friendly people, but are in no way intrusive. Holmleigh Guest House is absolutely spotless (which is a very important factor for me). We stayed 2 nights and our room was cleaned both days with tea and coffee facilities replenished. Now for the breakfast - we have stayed in many hotels over the years and have never had such a good breakfast. It was cooked to perfection with not a spot of grease on the plate. There were cereals, yoghurt and fruit to start and as much tea/coffee as you wanted. The only downside I would say to breakfast was that we would have preferred the option of having breakfast between say 8.00 am and 10.00 am as breakfast time was between 8.15 and 9.00 am and as we were on holiday this was a little early for us.

If I had one other small negative it would be that our room was quite small, but nevertheless spotlessly clean.

We would probably not stay again but only because we don't think we will visit Whitby again as we found it very difficult to find somewhere decent to eat (unless you wanted fish & chips) and there were only a couple of more upmarket bars. We also find that there were a lot of run down shops and the whole feel of Whitby was not particularly clean.

Room Tip: There are a lot of reviews regarding spacious rooms, but we unfortunately got a small room, but we d...

“good short break venue”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 April 2011

stayed here for two nights and found this a good place to stay, good location 5 minute walk into whitby although hotel is top of a small hill so maybe not ideal for not so fit,but was fine for us.The hosts were very welcoming and friendly and went out of their way to make you feel at home. Our room was a typical english b and b room with a small en suite with shower [good powerful shower], the room was spotless with crisp white sheets. The full english breakfast was huge with fresh fruit to start and offers of refills of tea and coffee. All in all a good place to stay and Whitby is a lovely fishing village, very quaint, and with lots of pubs [if you like that sort of thing].

“To beat this B&B they must be good!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 March 2011

My wife and I found this on the internet and visited their site prior to booking. We booked a 3 night stay after reading reviews, but most importantly, speaking to the owners. There are few words which can describe this B&B. One of these is 'excellent'. If you want to stay in a friendly, clean guesthouse, look no further. The Holmleigh gives you everything. It is spotless. The room we stayed in demands a 10/10 for being just what we are used to. A1*****B&B.
The breakfast is superb (I have a big appetite and my wife is a top cook) and their breakfast is, to echo other people staying there the same time as us ' what we call a breakfast'. Carol obviously takes great care to ensure here guests are fed with good well cooked food. To be honest, on two of the mornings, I needed to ask for less than they were offering. Kev goes out of his way to ensure that everyone sharing their home feels welcome, well serviced and fed.
Added to this, if you like to have interesting conversations regarding sport, just talk to Kev. This mountain of a man is an ex- Rugby League player (Featherstone and Castleford no less!!!!) and the tales he can tell kept me, personally, rivetted.
Anytime we are in Whitby, this is the place we will choose.Highly recommended.

“Loved it!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2010

Went for the weekend at the end of September and couldn't fault it! Kev & Carol were brilliant, they gave us a warm and friendly welcome as did Rosie the dog! The rooms were great; warm, comfortable and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was great, when I saw the size of the plates I opted for a small full english and even that took some finishing! Myself and hubby and the friends we went with will definitely be returning.
