“Perfect Small Hotel - Wonderful Hospitality...Wonderful Hosts......Simply wonderful!!”
Although we have stayed in Whitby many, many times over the years at different hotels and with mixed feelings about the services on offer from many and issues with value for money, we followed the reviews on Trip Advisor for our stay this week as this hotel is rated as number ONE!
We realised that we had seen the hotel in passing at times before but not considered it before.
Oh how we wished we had seen it ten years ago...
On approaching, it is clear why this hotel is so popular...full of late Victorian charm with it's mock Tudor features, big bay windows and turretted roof.
The windows sparkle with that zing that only a well turned out household has and that only a good housekeeper knows the secret of!!
The welcoming blooms of the hanging baskets blowing gently in the breeze add to the charm of this delightful AA 4 Star rated establishment.
Plentiful parking at the front and an 'open door ' that welcomes you into a haven of comfort, kindness and exceptionally well presented accommodation.
Chris and Bruce, who have owned and run this lovely Hotel for 11 years are our hosts.
Instantly they set you at your ease, nothing is a problem and they offer all the comfort and hospitality that nowadays you would never ever ever find in any large hotel and certainly we have never experienced anything like this in Whitby.
Check-in is simple, straight up the sparkling and spotlessly beautiful original staircase to our room - Room 6 at the back and top of the Hotel.
This well sized room offers all the comfort of an old friend...Smart, yet homely decoration, an ultra comfortable bed and lots of nice little extras...Small fridge for your cold drinks or the Smoked Bacon and Kippers that you might buy to take home from Fortunes, Tea/Coffee making facilties, extra pillows and a lovely wool cellular blanket if you need it...tons of wardrobe space. great TV...telephone and a new en-suite bathroom with shower that has been cleaned with the same vigour as the rest of the house that simply sparkles. Not a speck of dust anywhere.
A great night's sleep follows after lots of sea air and a good walk...Oh and of course Fish and Chips from The Magpie on the Quayside.Bliss!
Our hosts are on hand to help all day and there are no problems with access or any other issues if they happen to have popped out.
Breakfast.....
The Dining Room is large and spacious on the ground floor with a wonderful collection of clocks and humourous touches like the napkin rings and the other little things that make this hotel so unique.Chris and Bruce have plenty of stories to tell and wondeful sense of humour!
They will gladly arrange the tables according to your needs if the party is greater than two people but generally the tables are laid out with plenty of space and room to eat in comfort.
Tables are laid with lovely damask cloths and pristine cutlery and crockery.High standards with subtle old fashioned touches that spell all the hallmarks of people who take pride in what they are doing and the people they are looking after.
This is a veritable feast that we could not recommend highly enough.
It comes in the Room Rate and is probably the best home and hand cooked breakfast we have ever had.The Full Breakfast is absoluely delicious, Eggs any style, great top quality sausages, bacon and Black Pud and the most delicious Fried Bread Men that we have ever seen and tasted.Mushrooms and Grilled Tomatoes done to perfection.
Kippers are delivered fresh to the kitchen (no Boil in the bag here!!) and are exceptionally cooked and the Cheese and Mushroom Omelette that I requested especially was the best I have ever tasted - Ever!
Cereals and delicious fresh fruit to start with including hand trimmed Strawberry, Apricots, melon and blueberry add a mouthwatering start to the meal.
Refreshing fruit juices and plentiful Tea/Coffee and lots of Hot Toast in plentiful amounts.
Old fashioned favourites like HP and Heinz sauces, Robertsons marmalades and Jams and fresh butter add to the high quality of this lovely start to the day.
This lovely place is first and foremost the Home of Chris and bruce and those they welcome into it are treated with all the respect and kindness of friends visiting their home.
We could not recommend this Hotel highly enough to anyone who wants top quality standards, comfort , great food and value for money with all the added charm of personality and respectfulness.
It runs rings around some of the other so called 'good' hotels in Whitby in all respects and as a couple who have tried some of these other places, do yourself a favour, visit the Corra Lyn and you'll find out what Hospitality is really all about.
You won't look back....Promise!
It really is the Number 1 Hotel in Whitby!!
