“Value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

We stayed in the Lodge part of the hotel. It was clean and warm. Got value for money. There was a good selection of choices for breakfast, although tinned fruit cocktail on the breakfast table, no thanks...

Bagdale Lodge is getting very good reviews due to the refurbishment and our fantastic cleaning staff. Breakfast always goes down a treat and sets you up for the day. Il be having words with the staff about trying to hide the tins better or make my chef to make some home-made fruit cocktail for your next arrival.

“Room was fine but the dinner, AWFUL!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

The room was very comfortable with a great shower and a problem with the TV was sorted out rapidly.

Dinner: OBSCENELY OVER-PRICED, LACK OF FINESSE, WINE FINE.

Starter of Game Parcels was OK with a bitter orange sauce.
The very small duck I was presented with as a main had led a short and meaningless life considering the dried out over-cooked dish I was presented with the price a staggering £18.00!
The cheese board at £8.95 featured some chunks of cheese straight out of the Co-op fridge cabinet. Rubbery and flavours relatively non-descript. I recommend a trip to Hunter's of Helmsley for a lesson in regional cheeses- that's what we did the following day. http://www.huntersofhelmsley.com/

At the prices charged (£2-5 more per dish than on the website), a little more cooking skill and presentation might have been in order. Any of the local fish and chip restaurants take a greater pride in cooking than this chef did.

I might take a room again but would not go near the restaurant.

Glad to hear the room was to your satisfaction. Very disappointed to hear your meal wasn’t to satisfaction but when you don’t let us know about it on the evening or morning of check out there isn’t much we can do. Just to pick up on a few things the Duck isn’t £18 nor is the Cheeseboard £8.95. One other thing is the Cheeseboard tells you what cheeses you are getting so why order one? Hope you do come stay again.

“Splendid Hotel!!”

We stayed here just the week before Christmas so the weather was quite chilly. The Hall though was very welcoming and we did get a very good deal presumably due to the time of year. We had a beautiful big room with a lovely four poster bed making it a very memorable stay.
We have previously stayed in the annexe which is probably a better choice in winter as although the heating was on the room was a little cold maybe as we were on the floor.
Breakfast was delicious with a wide selection. Would certainly love to stay again!

What a lovely time to come at Christmas and so pleased you enjoyed you stay. The lovely big four poster room does take some heating and always warm enough maybe you caught it on a bad day when it had a cold. Please do come stay again.

We had our evening meal there and it was GORGEOUS.
Breakfast was ok.
Would def stay again.

Room Tip: The Hall is the Haunted part with big 4 poster beds etc, the lodge up the hill is very modern (and c...
