It’s taken me a while to write this review but we stayed at harbour view for an anniversary weekend. The owner was aware of the reason for booking, however this did not deter her from moaning about her failed marriage and openly encouraging her daughter to hate men in front right of us, she even said she was going into town with her daughter to spit at men. Not the best introduction I’ve had...
She was eager to take our money upfront and it was not till after it became apparent it was not a B&B but a self catering hostel. This angered me as it was not made clear we do not get a breakfast made for us. She was never around so could not complain but sh later sai" it give the guests more freedom to get up when they want". So why not provide a breakfast between 8-9 and then let people help them selves?? I was ready to leave at this point but didn’t want to spoil our romantic weekend further.
We occupied the top attic room with a “harbour View” What a load of rubbish!! £65 per night to stand on tiptoes and poke your head out of the sky light to see not the harbour but a boat yard, it may as well have been overlooking an industrial estate. There were no other windows.
The room was so tiny you could only stand up properly in small areas we had to dress by taking it in turns. The toilet was impossible to use standing up and if you wanted a shower or bath you had to crouch.
I work in home safety and as this was the top room of a single narrow staircase with NO I repeat NO other escape exit if there was a fire, we would have had to climb out on to the slate roof via the sky light but there is nowhere to escape to from there. There was a small extinguisher which would just about put out a cigarette.
We spoke to another couple who were staying there who had the same issues. They wanted to complain but the owner was never around.
I will say the room was clean but the impression given by this place is false even the photo lies as the property is split into two hence the tiny rooms and dangerously narrow staircase. To summarise it was cold, claustrophobic unwelcoming, well overpriced and possibly quite dangerous. This is a £20 per night backpackers Not a B&B.
I would not recommend this place to anyone.
