We did not stay here but during our 6th visit at another hotel in the village, we decided we would eat here. We have eaten at most places within the 15 mile radius of the area and this is by far the worst.
Curiosity over reading other comments regarding reasonably good food attracted us in on this occassion.
We started by arriving at reception after having pre-booked a table and waited 10 minutes to be seen to and although kitchen waiters/waitresses came out of the kitchen know one came over to greet us and check us in.
Not put off we wandered through to the bar area and said that we were here to eat. We were served some drinks and I went to the mens toilet which was worse than a public toilet. Filthy toilet area dirty soaps on basin, wonky tap, silicone round toilets must of been done whilst either very drunk or wearing a blindfold. For a hotel this was really unacceptable.
We were then taken through to the restaurant area and sat down with some menus.
We were not told about the specials and the menu looked fine although a little confusing.
The menu was poorly set out and didn't state starters/mains/desserts etc.
It also didn't state what came with the meal. ie. chips/potatoes/veg/salad etc.
We were then taken to our table that had a name plate reservation via a lined piece of A4 paper that was folded up and written on.
The Waiters/Waitresses were some in uniform others not and highly unorganised.
The starters then came, I had the cured beef which was soaked in oil and covered in pepper and for £5.95 was very dissapointing. The table was set out with a fish curtlery and mains, no cutlery for starters. Also when we asked for steak knives we were told we would'nt need them as the meat was so tender.
We then had our mains which weren't too sharp either, we had asked for chips with the meal as we were unsure from the menu what it came with. When the food came there was chips, mash, roast potatoes and soggy wet re-heated veg. During our mains there was a group of 5 men on the table next too us who were staying at the hotel. They were bearly half way through their meal when the waiter came and asked them if they wanted a dessert.
Again this happened during our meal and we also declined their seemed to be a rush to finish and get home! Certainly not proffesional and quite rude.
We then made a quick exit and paided and even this simple request was made difficult by the member of staff who could'nt work the chip and pin machine.
Overall a very dissapointing meal and we wont come back again.
This is a large place and has masses of potential but there is obviously a reluctance to spend any money and would be better suited as an old peoples home.
Our advise would be keep to the other end of the village where you will find a good hotel with fine food and excellent service of which you just cant fault!
