I've been visiting Whitby for many years since I was a child. I remember the Marine Cafe and really wanted to stay at the hotel so my 40th was a good enough reason.

The web site says only 2 night stays at weekends but we took a chance and made a call and they fitted us in for one night. It was a great stay, location and view from room one is the best.

Yes, for some the bathing and toilet arrangements may not be ideal but I loved the quirkyness of it. Dinner was good (this was the first place that I had tried oysters last year and the second time this year was just as good!) The cocktails are to die for but the pianist made my evening and birthday. It felt like a family party. Having breakfast (just right portion size) in the room the next morning wearing our dressing gowns overlooking the harbour and jealous people walking past was just a perfect end to a fantastic stay and 2011.

I have visited the Marine on 3 separate occasions and everytime I have loved it. The food is just scrumptious, the staff are so friendly and obliging, I have had the oysters which are to die for and the mussels are delicious. My husband has had a few dishes from the specials board and if ever the mackerel is available it is a must as it is just so flavoured. The fish and chips, even the small portion that is available is totally filling and scrummy.

Every time I go to Whitby I would visit this place.

I've stayed at the Marine twice, and I LOVE it .Both times it was in grim, out of season weather and I'm sorry to report that I can't tell you anything that hasn't been reviewed already
Whitby is an amazingly magical place that never ceases to charm me & The Marine is the perfect base to explore it

Parking WOULD be an issue peak season.
I'm not a prude, but, please, please would you put doors on the bathrooms !
One of the rooms over-looks the fish market where the trawler men land their fish. This meant there was a lot of noise really early in the morning. I actually liked this as it made me feel "involved" in the culture of Whitby....some people may not like their sleep being disturbed.

I can't wait to go back

My husband and I have just returned from our weekend at the Marine Hotel. Very enjoyable. On the Saturday morning (which happened to be my Birthday) we were serenaded by the pianist who sang happy birthday to me and played a selection of Elton John songs for us.The room (room 2) was immaculate and very pleasant and comfortable. We have never had breakfasts as good any where we have stayed, all made to order and not buffet style. We also ate in for two our of the three nights we stayed, the food was very good. Would love to visit again.
