“I've stayed here many times”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

I've stayed here many times. It's a classic local Whitby pub with rooms. Recently refurbished, the room I had last time overlooked the harbour and was bright, clean and comfortable, although the little en suite was a bit a challenge for a big chap like me. Breakfast was good. It's a no fuss place with a bar that seems to be open most hours. The negative comments which the Internet loves to hold on to must be from quite a while ago. I'm going again this spring.

Room Tip: The room on the same level as the dining room, overlooking the harbour is good one, at the front.

“Basic, but nice.”

This is a 16 century "Real Ale", old fashioned pub. Rooms are basic but very clean & warm. Home cooked food is very nice. A lovely walk on the flat to the town centre. Live entertainment on over the weekend all year round. "Regulars" are very friendly and accommodating with tourists . You step down into the pub, so watch your step on the way out if you've been on the hard stuff. Ideal pub for a weekend, would recommend to a friend.

Room Tip: Ask for a harbour view.

Have stayed at the Middle Earth Tavern quite a few times
My self and my boy friend have stayed in all the double rooms from top to bottom of the sleeping area
the Full English breakfast cooked fresh to order by the owner Jill and Partner Sandy when he's not at sea (Fisherman when the weathers right on the trawlers
Rooms are simple enough to put your head and body after a lovely day and night in and around Whitby

Room Tip: All rooms are beautiful

“we had a great time”

The middle earth is a b&b in a pub, not a hotel charging what they like. We have stayed in both and much prefer the pub. Great friendly staff, lovely breakfast and most important clean bed. The heating was also on day and night. Yes there's a few cracks in the walls, so what it adds to the atmoshere of an old building. This was our fourth visit and we will be going again.

“Ideal for us”

We recently stayed here as we (ten blokes) booked a Whitby sea fishing trip. This is a classic B&B, not the ritz but what do you expect for the price you pay. The staff were great, the bar was great with plenty of good ales and the breakfast was plentyful.
