“Excellent Value for Money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Booked through IPhone App at very short notice due to family illness and all fine on arrival, nice to be met with fresh tea or coffee and biscuits. Dinner in restaurant overseen by Duty Manager. Food good but overtaken by the service which was outstanding with every consideration given to choice and flexibility with offers. Nicely rounded off with discretionary service charge not automatically added to bill but rest assured the amount I added was well deserved.

Jane on checkout the next morning was very helpful as I was unsure if I needed a second night and assured me that if I did it would be available and just to call her. Just the help you need when under stress!

“Enjoyed my stay here”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

Staff were very helpful and friendly. Restaurant good when specials were on but a little bit pricey otherwise, quality good though. Rooms a little dated but everything worked. Overall I was very comfortable

“Better than it looks from outside”

Stayed here on New Year's Eve 2011. Looks old fashioned from outside but the rooms were newly furnished and very clean. Didn't use the restaurant facilities. There is a spa and swimming pool. Only negative comment was that it was an unseasonably warm night and the aircon during the winter months is set to heat!

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for taking the time to post a Tripadvisor review following your recent stay with us. Guest feedback is an important tool to allow us to constantly monitor and improve the service we are providing.

I am very pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay with us and that you were happy with your bedroom. Guest comfort is of extreme importance to us and to hear that we have met your expectations is very encouraging, thank you very much for your kind comments.

I would like to take this opportunity to apologise for the difficulty you experienced with our air conditioning facility. Unfortunately, our air conditioning is centrally controlled at the current time, however, if you find your room uncomfortable or have any problems with regards to the temperature, my Reception team are available twenty four hours a day, and will always endeavour to fix problems of this nature.

Thank you very much for choosing to stay with us at the Holiday Inn Norwich, myself and my team hope to welcome you back to Norwich in the near future.

With Best Regards

“Ok - but very chav central and no aircon!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

We'd booked a night thanks to Holiday Inn's 2012 promotion so won't be complaining as it only cost just over £20 for a double room. However, we wouldn't want to pay much more to stay here. The room itself had been semi-freshed - clean walls and carpet but 1980's tatty brown furniture kind of spolied the potentially contemporary look. There was a rather nice large-ish flatscreen TV but the room was rather confused with its 1980s furniture. The view also from room 306 also wasn't much to die for - air conditioning units, a flatroof and council houses were all we could really see.

I don't know if they were having some kind of function but there were alot of rev-heads and it felt quite chavvy (its situated beside one of the largest council house estates in Norwich - Lakenham) - had we been wear tracksuits and been driving a Peugot 106 with darkened windows and a spoiler we'd have felt at home! Outside of the hotel, groups of said clients were puffing away on their cigarettes continually throughout our stay.

Reception staff were very efficient but they spoke as though they were reading through a script. Friendly enough though.

One thing that really needs to change is the fact that you cannot turn the aircon on during colder months as its centrally controlled - so despite having the window open (although due to a restricter it would only open an inch or so) - its was absolutely boiling - and this was in December! We could either have it on fan or heat - no aircon! I woke up several times absolutely boiling which ruined my night's sleep. How can they have airconditioned rooms with aircon facility that is only switched on when they feel its warm enough?!?!

The bathroom was also teeny but ok - although the loo seat had seen better days!

The beds were really comfy but it was such a shame we were just too hot to sleep (in December!).

An average hotel - which is 2 miles out of Norwich (and you wouldn't want to walk the route in as its on the outer ring road), in a rather run down area - rooms ok, reception friendly enough but far too hot to be able to sleep properly. I would have been disappointed had I paid more.

Room Tip: Complain that you want aircon - if enough people ask, surely they will do something to allow you to...

Thank you for your feedback concerning our Hotel. We value the local community we are situated in and welcome their patriotism. We do not share your view regarding our residential or function guests, but I do respect the fact that you are entitled to your opinion. I fully take on board your comments regarding our air exchange system, which we have to set to heat in the winter and cool in the summer. We have to do this as all the units run off the same exchange unit. This unforgivably does not allow us to cater for personal heat/cool preferences by room at present. I am sorry that this disturbed your nights sleep. The windows do fully open once you remove the safety catch, I am sorry we did not bring this to your attention so you could cool your room more quickly.

“Could do better!”

Myself and a colleague recently stayed here for one night on business. the hotel was in a god city location and the room was clean and tidy. The receptionist was very friendly on at check in, however when we went to the bar to order some wine to take to our room the bar man didn't acknowledge us and walked up and down bar for 5 mins messing with the till. I had to ask if anyone was serving before he looked at us and was then told to wait just a minute! Breakfast was also another unexpected experience, 4 waiting staff however none of them asked us if we wanted tea or coffee and again had to be prompted by my colleague.

The hotel was busy with a turkey & tinsel coach tour, however this is no excuse for poor service!

We may have to stay again before christmas so please try harder next time.
