where to start - on arrival (we were 30mmins to early for the 4pm book in) stood outside ringing bell, phoning the numerous numbers to get in, until the door finally opened to reveal the most unwelcoming host we have ever seen! After five hours travelling it would have been nice to have been met with a smile, or even general pleasantries, instead of silence and then a lifeless commentary of the hotel.
The building is impressive, but its in the middle of a housing estate, the rooms are pleasant, but possibly the decor not to everyone's taste. The host was not much warmer on our only other interactions, mainly at breakfast where an elderly gentleman set off the smoke alarm trying to use a toaster with a timer. The owner then could be heard rushing into the room to see who the culprit was, and we have never seen an old man swallow a full slice of toast so quickly. Unfortunatly our toast was slightly dark and upon reaching our table, we found ourselves accused of setting off the arlam!! It would have been funny, if we hadn't paid £100 a night for this sort of atsmosphere - which is quite stale.
Even at checkout, and handing over £200, our host did not even say a thank you, or have a pleasant journey, it is quite bizarre to find an owner of a bed/breakfast to appear so rude and clearly unhappy about running what could be a good business.
We left regretting that we did not stay elsewhere.
