“NOT BAD NOT GREAT”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

We arrived at this hotel and the check was fast and the lady behind reception very nice.
The room not amazing for executive but still passable.
Bar- service was shocking at 5pm we had to go and find somebody to serve us after waiting 15mins to be served.
Restaurant- Food sublime would highly recommend unfortunately service was lacking. They were busy but there were lots of staff working!!! we waited 15 mins for a table even though they had booked us in for a set time! order was taken 15mins later starter took 30 mins to arrive and mains 45 mins after starter!
Kobe beef was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We kept trying to flag someone down for our dessert order but no one would look at us.
Eventually left restaurant at gone 11.
Our server alex was lovely but there was no organisation and no sections for staff it seemed?
Breakfast was again good food but do you really expect to wait 15 mins for tea and toast to turn up??
I would stay again but only at a reduced rate as could have got a deal at a better hotel for less.

Room Tip: pay more for better??

“A welcome break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Extremely friendly and helpful welcome. We both commented at the time that the housekeeping staff did an excellent job, as the standard of our room and en suite were exemplary. It is extremely conveniently situated and has ample parking for it's guests. We will certainly be staying again.

Room Tip: Try and book a room in the original Georgian building.

“A good hotel near the city centre.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

We stayed here for a couple of nights. We booked a Deluxe Executive room as a treat. The parking outside was a bit haphazard and it was surprisingly busy when we arrived mid afternoon. Luckily we got a space though. The reception of the hotel is modern (the Rare restaurant is also accessed from here) and the receptionist was friendly and efficient.

There were quite a few steps up to our room so this hotel might not suit everyone - the hotel did seem a bit of a maze! Our room was large and modern and fairly well kept. The sheets did have a few marks on them though but I suppose bleach stains show more on dark sheets. The rest of the room was clean.

We also had a little outdoor area as our room was around the back. Our room was therefore quiet. It was quite warm as it was August - the duvet did seem a bit heavy for this time of year. The only downsides were that the sockets also seemed to be in slightly unusable places and the window didn't close securely - although it would have been tricky for anyone to get in!

Unfortunately we didn't have the opportunity to go to the Rare restaurant for dinner - so we will have to come back. We did have breakfast the continental was fine and there was a bit of a wait for the cooked breakfast as others have said.

Overall a nice stay in a quiet modern hotel.

“Recommended for a stop-over....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

My experience here was very good. Friendly welcome upon arrival, nice quiet room (which was hard top find as you had to go through the door signposted 'Toilets' - odd, but hey, what the heck! :^)). I liked the bar and the restaurant, which serves primarily 'Steak and Chips' - which suited me fine after a long drive (and is difficult to get wrong (which they didn't)).
I'd agree with some other reviews that the bathrooms are a bit tired (I had a bath rather than use the weak (and useless) shower), but then I only paid £55 for the room, so I can suffer that minor inconvenience. If I were staying for more than one night, I would have asked for it fixing or a different rooms though.

Room Tip: Ask if the shower works!
