“Executive Room / Suite Stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

I booked an Executive Room which upon inspection had an interconnecting door. In most hotels this was not an issue but in this hotel I could clearly hear every noise coming from the room next door.

I discussed the issue with the hotel and they were good enough to move me to a suite. The suite was nicely laid out with a separate lounge and bedroom. My only complaint would be that as this is an old building I could clearly hear every creak from upstairs as someone walked around.

“Warm, friendly, comfortable and welcoming!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Recently returned from a stay here on business. A lovely independent, charming hotel with lots of character. Great location for eateries nearby- La Tasca, Zizzis, All Bar One, pub grub, other little restaurants and take away places all within less than 5 minutes walk - some within spitting distance. I can only speak for my room but it was large with a huge double bed- all facilities (hairdryer, refreshments tray, toiletries).

The bathroom was a tiny bit worn but nothing too disturbing. A very warm hotel and room which during a very cold week in February is some achievement! Staff were really pleasant and reception always acknowledged my arrival - on check in but also every time I returned to the hotel- even if it was just a quick 5 minute fresh air break.

Decent breakfast - sometimes to order and sometimes buffet self service style but always plentiful with fruit, yoghurt, porridge, usual cooked options with FRESH mushrooms and served with a smile.

This hotel has lots of character and is a nice break away from 'chain' hotels, which can be a bit samey.

I phoned in advance with some queries (weather and gym check) and my queries were responded to with the same friendly approch I found on arrival. By the way there are no gym but facilities linked to the hotel apparently not far away for £10.. although I never made it there!!

Room Tip: Room size and quality appears to vary from very good to outstanding so it may be worth asking for an...

“Lovely old Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Stayed here for a special treat 4th-5th Jan we had a real cold snap weatherwise. hotel lovely and warm, very cosy and staff couldnt have been more welcoming. Breakast was top notch, full English and continental all good! stayed in Paston Suite, which was immaculate with wonderful, absolutely huge 4 poster bed! One of the best rooms, we were recommended it. Would stay again for definite, the whole place had a lovely, warm, quaint ambiance to it. Most enjoyable!

“Pleasant Stay.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

My daughter and I stayed at the Maids Head Hotel for one night on 1st February. The location is great, close to the shops and lots of lovely cafes and resturants. We had a standard twin room which was large and warm on a very cold day outside. The breakfast was good, self service and even though we arrived 10 minutes before the end of breakfast there was still a full choice available. We had an internal room so was quiet but no view. Only complaints were very noisy bathroom fan which
took quite a while to turn off and net curtains could have done with a wash but overall we enjoyed our stay and would return.

“Lovely hotel with loads of charm in a great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

I stayed here for 2 nights while travelling on business. The location is great; lots of restaurants nearby and the city centre is a short walk away.

The hotel itself is beautiful and full of charm but fitted out nicely with modern bathrooms and comfy beds.

The staff were friendly and helpful

My only complaint was the creaky floorboards and road noise in my room (on the main road), but this is to be expected in a Jacobean building and it wasn't a major issue.
