We stayed over for a night at the Grey House, as we were going to a gig at Middlesbrough Town Hall, and didn’t want to drive back to Newcastle on the same evening.
Jana, the host, couldn’t have been nicer and was really friendly and welcoming and showed us to our room, letting us know everything we needed to about the hotel.
The property is situated in a quiet residential area of town, about 20 minutes walk from the bars and restaurants on Linthorpe Road. It’s not far from there into the city centre. If you’re not much of a walker, there are frequent buses or you could easily call a taxi.
It’s a well maintained Edwardian building with nice grounds and a lot of character. Our room, no. 5, was spacious and came with a four poster bed and large en-suite bathroom. In the room there was also a TV and tea and coffee making facilities.
There are also two large communal lounges that are nicely furnished and comfortable.
Breakfast is served in the lounge area to the left of the main entrance, and it was well cooked and tasty (coffee also good), and set us up nicely for our trip back north.
It’s also a nice touch of the hosts to provide free bottled water and fruit that you can have at any time of the day.
The Grey House represents excellent value for money- just £65 for a double room with breakfast- and provides an excellent base from which to explore the local area.
If we’re ever back in the area, we’d definitely stay here again.
Room Tip: oom 5 has a 4 poster bed
