Stayed a night here following my husband's transfer to the James Cook hospital following a heart attack. Despite ringing ahead to check access, I was horrified to find that a) there were 4 or 5 steps to get into the hotel, or b) go round the back & up an extremely steep wooden ramp which my powered wheelchair struggled with, & could not negotiate the threshold into the dining room anyway, so was forced to walk. The room definitely was NOT accessible, and two heavy doors made it even less so. Was very distressed already, so this added to a very difficult situation.
The bathroom was too cold and the grab-rail - dangerously - came away in my hand; good job I'd stuck my own suction grab-rail on & had my sister with me!
The staff were friendly, but hadn't much idea how to help; nor was I offered an apology or any kind of refund, so I definitely won't be staying again, and will make a formal complaint.
Breakfast was ok, reasonable portions, but the coffee was disappointingly instant. No real vegetarian options either..
My son booked me into the nearby Premier Inn, after assuring me that Lenny Henry had gone home for Christmas & wouldn't be jumping out of the wardrobe with an axe!
No reply to my email after nearly 2 weeks, so have sent another and will send a recorded delivery letter..
