“fabulous location, well designed room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Booked the room through the hotel's website, which I believe has the best deals, especially with longer (>4 days) stays and advanced purchase. We got the suite to accomodate 2 adults plus two kids. Front desk staff extremely helpful and friendly. Room layout a bit like a cruise ship cabin - compact, efficient, lots of storage space for the square footage. It is a rectangular shaped room. The sofabed occupies the side of the room close to the window, the queen sized bed is near the entrance, and the middle portion of the room has a very sleek bathroom and a kitchenette. There is a small microwave which is nice when you have kids who constantly want to snack. We got a room on a lower level facing the train station, which does not provide much of a view, but there was not much noise either. Location is fantastic - can easily walk to Parliament, Big Ben etc by crossing the Westminster Bridge, 5 min away from the London Eye, and a pleasant 10 minute walk along the South Bank to the Tate Modern and Millenium Bridge, with the Globe Theatre on the way. There are some restaurants, cafes etc clustered around the County Hall/London area, but also some eateries for a quick bite in the Waterloo train station. Housekeeping was excellent, room was always spotless. Very family friendly. Kids got vouchers which they can exchange for candy bars or ice cream at the restaurant on the mezzanine level. They loved it! Also got little activity books etc which made them very happy.

Room Tip: The suites can easily accomodate a family of four

Dear twodiamondmom,

As you have mentioned, our website does offer several options for booking a room with us, as we try to provide a variety of deals to meet every guest's needs. I am pleased to hear that you were able to make the most of this to suit you and your family. For the future, we also have a very experienced Reservations Department, who are always happy to help with any queries!

It is great that your kids enjoyed the Activity Packs, and the little goodies that come with it! I'm glad that the rooms provided all the facilities you needed for your family, once the kid's had exhausted the vouchers!

Our great location is fantastic for any family visiting London, so we hope that we will be able to welcome you back next time you are visiting!

Kind regards,

Shelley Martin

“Exceeded Expectations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

I booked this hotel for a long weekend break based on excellent reviews on this site and wasn't disappointed. Got a very good price on Otel.com (had to request a with breakfast price which wasn't quoted but was very worthwhile). From arrival to departure all expectations were met or exceeded. I requested a high room with a view in advance and this was a good idea: some rooms look onto an internal courtyard whereas we had a panoramic view of London from the 11th floor with the London Eye and Palace of Westminster very close (Room 1102). Room was exceptionally clean and comfortable (I understand the hotel has been open 4 years but it doesn't show). Every member of staff (there were plenty of them) was smiling and so friendly; a manager even showed us the Penthouse Rooms without any pressure to upgrade! Breakfast (full buffet, not just continental) was excellent too.

If I was picky I'd point out that the dining room isn't really big enough but there were plenty of staff clearing all the time and we never had to wait more than a couple of minutes for a table. At the busiest times there can be a wait for a lift from the higher floors but usually it was very quick. Also, there is free Wi-Fi in all rooms but we didn't manage to get it to work (may have been our fault). We had a problem with the safe on the day of departure but an engineer arrived within minutes of calling and was as friendly and polite as all of the staff we met.

There is a small Gym but we didn't use it.

The hotel's location is absolutely perfect for a London break with two tube stations nearby (Waterloo and Westminster), The London Eye and Southbank almost outside the front door and the whole of the west end a within a 20 min walk across the river.

One thing to note: there are two Park Plaza hotels almost adjacent to each other: we weren't the first to try to check in at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge!

Room Tip: Request high room with a view (eg 1102). Penthouse rooms fabulous but expensive. Unfortunately the...

“Good value hotel, good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Enjoyed our stay, good breakfast, drop off parking outside is difficult and the one-way system makes it hard to get to on the first attempt. The bar could be bigger, not enough seats. One of the good hotels in London.

“Very nice with easy access to all the sights”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Walking distance from Waterloo a very nice hotel with all the service you'd expect from excellent rated place to stay. Had an n excellent studio room, which was in superb condition, the bathroom, which is always an indicator of cleanliness was fantastic, looked new with no hidden mold or damp smells so often encountered in hotels.
Although a London-eye view, you could only see the top of it due to other buildings in the way so not really a selling point and not worth worrying about if you don't get that view.
Slight confusion with wi-fi, Internet connection details were unclear and therefore didn't try to connect my ipad to the wi-fi and they tried to charge a fiver for about 2 mins Internet use via the TV which I didn't realize was chargeable. So, wi-fi or hard wired in room is free, communal area wi-fi chargeable, Internet via TV is chargeable. Waived the fee after I complained.
All in all a lovely hotel, in a great spot for Westminster, South Bank, Tate Modern, St Pauls walks.

Dear nburton_1972,

I would like to apologise that the wi-fi access was unclear during your stay with us. We try and offer our guests several options for internet access throughout the hotel, in order to suit every guests needs. The wi-fi throughout the hotel is complimentary, and can be accessed by entering the room number and surname. Our guests are also able to upgrade to a higher bandwidth, for a minimum charge. We have two guest computers which are complimentary to use, and these are located on our minus one level. Alternatively, the internet can be accessed through the TV, however, as you have mentioned, this is a chargeable feature.

I am pleased that you were able to make use of our excellent location, and that your stay lived up to the expectations that had been created via websites such as TripAdvisor.

We hope to welcome you and your partner back in the future.

Kind regards,

“Birthday Celebration”

It was our second visit to this wonderful modern hotel for my wife and I and we were not disappointed.
Once again we were given excellent customer service, especially so from the friendly and helpful staff at the check in desk. We arrived early and to our delight we were upgraded to a studio room that we could use immediately. Another nice touch was that on learning that we were celebrating a birthday a complementary bottle of wine was left in our room.
The breakfast in this hotel is superb, not only for the modest price but for the excellent service, extensive choice and quality that is provided.
