“Worst place I have ever nearly stayed at !,,,”

Booked these apartments as looked fantastic on website. It was a treat for my family at Christmas time. On arrival receptionist very nice and told us apartment not ready but to come back at 2 ,which was fine. Lobby looked very nice. Checked in when returned and went to our 2 bedroom apartment. On opening the door the smell of cigarettes was awful especially as I had booked non smoking, the kitchen was full of dirty pots, the sofas ripped and there was a dustbin in one bedroom catching water from the air conditioning. The doors to the balcony did not lock and the balcony ran the full length of building so any other guests could have got into our rooms. I went back to reception and told her and she said she would upgrade us to a bigger apartment! This seemed fine until we went into that, it was filthy, the kitchen looked as though someone had just left after making breakfast, the beds were not made and had other guests dirty bedding on and there were extension cables running across floor to freezer and washing machine, was so disappointed. Went back to reception and asked for refund, if I could find somewhere else to stay, she happily did that and we went to the holiday inn at Mayfair which was excellent. These were the worse apartments I have ever seen, the hallways upstairs shabby with worn carpets and grubby walls not at all like photos on the Internet. Thankfully receptionist very helpful and luckily we got a refund

Naturally, we deeply regret this guest's disappointment and all the more so that, in he first apartment provided, we gave cause for it. There is absolutely no excuse that I would want to offer for the condition in which that apartment was provided to a guest and I can only assure those reading this review that:

a. Clearly this could not be our normal standard, as we would otherwise have been out of business long ago. Other reviews do not suggest this is the norm.

b. Lessons were learned from this incident (at the time - some time before this review was published) and action taken to prevent a recurrence.

With regards to the second apartment offered to the guest, there seems to have been a misunderstanding and this was reported to me at the time. The apartment was offered to the client to view but had not yet been serviced for occupancy (as it was not expected to be occupied that night) and, naturally, the Housekeeping team were then expecting to fully service it prior to inviting the guest to transfer from one apartment to the other. The guest misunderstood and thought the apartment was being offered in that unserviced condition. We no longer allow guests to view alternative apartments without fully explaining to them these circumstances in a similar situation.

It was, of course, not by luck that a refund was given without hesitation by the receptionist. We do not wish to have disappointed guests and the Reception team have been trained in the appropriate circumstances in which a full refund should be given without hesitation.

A considerable amount of work is on-going to renew those apartments which need it, including replacement of carpet, redecorating walls etc. At the time of writing, 3 Two Bedroom Apartments are out of service for this purpose.

We do very much appreciate any and all feedback and, again, we deeply regret the disappointment caused to this reviewer.

This place is perfect for a family. It has all the amenities of an apartment including washer, dishwasher etc. It is also very conveniently located near restauarants, museums etc. I would highly recommend staying here.

Once again, our thanks for such a positive review. The team really do appreciate hearing when somebody has so enjoyed their stay.

One point I would like to clarify: in terms of the amenities, I believe that this reviewer stayed with his family in a Two Bedroom Apartment, which are indeed ideal for a family as they accommodate up to 6 guests. The washer/dryer and dishwasher are amenities which we have in Two bedroom Apartments, Large One bedroom Apartments and our recently launched Executive Studio Apartments. Our Contemporary One Bedroom Apartments have the dishwaser but not the washer/dryer and our other Studio Apartments do not have either.

There are full details as to the features of each apartment type on our new web site - just follow the "Serviced Apartments" link.

In the meantime, our thanks again to the reviewer for the kind comments.

I booked this hotel for friends who were visiting London with their teenage son so that they could have separate rooms. In making the arrangements, I found the staff to be extremely helpful and courteous. My friends loved the hotel and said they would definitely stay there on a future trip to London. Why? The location is great, the price is great, the staff are great, the apartments are great. What more can be said.

I would just like to thank this reviewer for such a positive reviews and comments. We welcome all feedback but it is obviously very refreshing for all of the team, who work so hard, to see that someone has enjoyed their stay so much and is more than happy to say so. Thank you again.

“Fantastic location, not so good stay”

I had planned this trip for ages, and with this hotel being in posh south Kensington / Knightsbridge and costing £400 per night for a 2-bedroom, I had great expectations.

What turned out was that the apt looked more like 3 small rooms connected by a corridor than a cosy condo. Beds were small, wardrobes were dusty and not working properly and pots/pans worn out.

On the plus side I did not have any problems with hot water. Toilets were clean and modern- definitely have been retrofitted. Kitchen other than the pans was clean. The living area was our favorite part of the apt. Cozier and looked more modern than the tired-looking bedrooms.

Location is GREAT. Walk to natural history museum, many restaurants easily, and harrods a little further but still a nice walk. Hyde park too. Try muriel's kitchen across the road, and paul's patisserie across from Muriel for fresh coffee and hot baked goods from early - 7am or 8am. Le comptoir libanais and the creperies are great too. Tube is there as well, a stone's throw, and this station sits on 3 lines - picadilly, circle and district lines, which brings you from heathrow to practically any tourist attraction in London!

On balance, if you're looking for an average place in central London this would be great. For me, I wanted more luxury and comfort for my family, and so this did not meet my expectations.

We very much appreciate this very objective review that seeks to help potential guests on a wide variety of aspects related to this guest's stay - with regard to the location and attractions of the area, as well as the apartments themselves.

I certainly agree with regards to Muriel's Kitchen - also very good for a sample of English Cuisine (yes, there really is such a thing) at lunchtime or in the evening - and Paul's Patisserie - my favourite breakaway for a coffee in the area.

It's very good to hear that this reviewer is abe to counter some of the recent comments, whch related to those very unfortunate few days in September when we were badly affected by a major power cut in the area.

Naturally, we very much regret the ways in which this reviewer was disappointed. We have investigated and have taken action with regards to the shortcomings mentioned. Frankyl, we are surprised that the Two Bedroom Apartment was considered small. The usual comment is the exact opposite, given that most of our Two Bedroom Two Bathroom Apartments are noticeably larger than any others at the same level in the area. The layout of these apartments does vary from one to another in the building but the smallest are 78 square meters / 840 square feet.

All in all, a very helpful review for anybody considering staying in South Kensington. Our thanks again to the reviewer for an objective review.

“Location! Location!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2011

This is my second trip to the apartments based purely on their prime location in South Kensington. Apart from the very efficient and helpful booking provided i have to give them 1st prize for having the most miserable and unhelpful reception staff. Fortunately, if you dont need their assiostance its not an issue. The rooms are functional and have the basics. A nice touch was that they do provide a start up amount of tea and coffee to get you through to when you can get your own requirements. Furnishings very basic, cheap but functional with a TV (tiny) and DVD player. One toilet never worked efficiently but I juswt couldnt face approaching the front desk so just battled through this over the week and whilst they advertise free wi-fi, we could only get a signal if you stood in the passage. Obviosuly theses are apartments so just get used to the waft of various apartments cooking meals and the associated smells and pongs. The geyser for hot water runs out pretty quickly so I think family groups could suffer and generally the corridors are carpeting is a bit shabby and threadbare. All in all its fine!

Room Tip: It can be noisy if facing a main road so go higher.

Naturally, having a major selling point for Harrignton Court Apartments - the superb location - highlighted is little consolation for an otherwise disconcerting read - particularly coming from a returning guest.

Whilst we will certainly react to this feedback, I have to say that the general flow of comments about staff at Reception has been very favourable over the last 6 months, especially, after we put in considerable effort to improve their handling of their very important role.

I would have to quibble with the description of the furnishings as "very basic, cheap" - havng visited a number of our competitors at the same level, I know that what we provide stacks up very well. That said, we are never complacent and always open to specific suggestions as to what needs to be changed and updated.

All of the points raised in this review are being investigated and, where appropriate action is being taken - a further boost to the wifi coverage, as an example.

It is always disappointing to know that we have disappointed and we make a strong point of responding to and acting upon the feedback we receive - whether here, direct from our guests, by e-mail or in the many others ways in which we receive it.
