“An excellent budget hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

This place is, by London standards, very cheap, but it's also good, clean, quiet and close to Kings Cross/St Pancras. The rooms are small and have no tea/coffee making facilities or even a chair, but the bathroom (also small) is adequate so I can't complain. It doesn't do breakfast, but the price differential to places which do is enough for you to buy what you want. And, the wifi works and is free. I've already booked for my next trip.

“Bargain price for excellent clean new rooms in a great location!”

I booked this hotel the morning of my check-in and in doing so received a great discount. £130 for 3 nights in a single bedroom. Wasn't expecting too much but was pleasantly surprised. The hotel may not look like much on the outside (just an average looking older London hotel) but it turned out to be an excellent place. Fairly new rooms, lcd tv, extremely quick wifi all over the hotel, 24 hour reception. More than you could ask for the price. My single room came with a comfy double bed and a small but clean and good quality bathroom and shower. Much recommended to anyone wishing to stay in London in a great central location (2 mins walk to kings cross station) for a very low price... for the area anyway. Very happy

“Great location but you an find a better hotel in the area”

I've stayed here twice.

The first time I was put into a room in the basement (which I had heard had some mold problems). The room itself seemed OK. Very small but adequate, and well, you get what you pay for. I noticed that the bathroom definitely had a very strong mold smell, but I was only staying 2 nights so I wasn't too worried about it (I just tried not to breathe through my nose when I went in there).

The second time I decided to stay there again because it is in a GREAT location... very near Kings Cross so you can catch a number of subways to get you all over the city. This time I thought I was clever and asked to not be put in the basement. Well, that was worse. This room SMELLED.. the whole room. And the hotel knew that too cause they left the window open in the middle of winter trying to air it out. I asked to be moved but they assured me it was nothing to be worried about and to just leave the window open. Fast forward to coming back to the hotel a few hours later and it still smelled awful. A very heavy mold smell that was overpowering. I also noticed huge mold stains on the walls above the bed. I asked to be moved but they said they were fully booked. I went back to the room and became ill. I checked out first thing in the morning and checked into another hotel.

I will never stay there again. To top it off, the room was near the stairwell (there are several in the hotel) and you could hear people stomping up and down all night long. Even for a cheap hotel, it's still not worth it. There are plenty of other low priced rooms in this area, I would recommend going somewhere else.

“rubbish hotel in a great location”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

We stayed for one night as a stop over when going to Paris. We knew the room would be small and that was fine, though 'small' is a bit of an over exaggeration......miniscule would be more like it. The 'double' bed was no more than a large single, which isn't very helpful when one of you is 6'3" and it was so soft that we both work with back ache after a fitful few hours of sleep.

The bathroom was vile, smelt of damp and the ceiling was covered in mold, as you can see by the picture. The shower didn't drain, it just pooled in the middle of the again miniscule shower room. It also looked like the thing would fall on your head in a second so we didn't go anywhere near it.

I like two pillows and they only provided one each so I asked for another one at reception and was promptly told to come back in an hour because the girl behind the counter was far too busy to get one now! Nice customer service skills I thought!

However, after a crap night's sleep, in a tiny bed, in a room which smelt of damp, in a hotel when staff who don't care about their customer's.....we did only have to walk for 5 minutes to get to St Pancras. Past several other budget hotels on the same road which looked much nicer from the outside!

Room Tip: go somewhere else!
