“Expensive,stay away!Only as a last choice accomodation”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2011

In june 2010 my brother and I had made a booking at a nearby hostel which was really unorganised and there was no room available despite the booking,so we found Romanos hotel instead where we stayed for 3 days.It was really expensive because of the last minute reservation (as we were told) and we were given a tiny room in the basement with a sink and a bed.
The sheets and blankets seemed dirty and a bit rugged plus there was no bathroom in the basement and we had to go up in the second floor to find a decent bathroom. No problem there,it was clean and I never found it occupied despite the hotel being full. However the kitchen was next to the room and the noise was terrible every morning, didn't sleep quietly!Though the breakfast was full and with plenty of choices and even served after the programmed hours.
The service wasn't that bad, they were trying to be helpful but didn't speak english that well and were rather lazy as we had problems with the entrance card several times and they postponed helping us.The location is good,it's between two metro stations, one of them being victoria and it's in a small street which decreases a bit the amount of noise.
I would recommend only as a last alternative of hostels mainly to yound people and low-budget travellers,as long as the booking in done ahead!

“excellant value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2011

A large clean room with a double and 3 single beds for £79.Have stayed here several times previously. Quite basic but generally clean. In an ideal position right next to a bus stop heading for Trafalgar Square and therefore very handy for the West End. The main draw back is that the staff speak virtually no English. It took several minutes to persuade them to let us leave our case as they appear to have withdrawn the luggage storage facility. However when we told them we were frequant customers, they were more than happy to lock it in the dining room!

“Worst possible service ever recieved”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2011

If you are looking for a good location at a great price then this hotel is perfect for you. However its at a great price because it is a horrible hotel. To begin with we got insect bites from the bed and someone had used the toilet in my friends room and left it unflushed when they first checked into the room. All of this is overshadowed however by the unpleasant, unhelpful, rude staff, never before have I seen people who are providing a service be so hostile and ignorant. They obviously dont want any customers, I certainly will never return they don’t deserve the business.

“The worst 'hotel' I have ever stayed in”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2011

Possibly the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. Apparently their motto is: "Stay comfortable ... Pay reasonable." I laughed when I read that on my door!

Upon arrival at this hotel I was rather disappointed.

After a three hour journey to get to London I arrived eager to drop off my heavy bag + freshen up ready to see the sights. However I was told that my room was not ready; I would have to wait until 4pm to check-in. Though this was rather inconvenient I agreed to come back later, but was suspicious at the way the staff wanted me to pay now + leave straight away.

By the time i walked back out the door the manager shouted "See you at six o'clock then - make sure you dont come back before six!" which made me quite suspicious that the time had again changed.

Returning four hours later at six o'clock i was told the room was still not ready + again asked to pay before entering which i refused until i had seen the room.

Eventually the manager guided me in + i was quite horrified at the state of the room after all the waiting. It was extremely cramped with just enough room to walk around the bed (which had rather dodgy looking sheets; i am doubtful they had been cleaned since the last guest). The 'ensuite' bathroom was simply a broom cupboard with a contraption that looked like a shower with a toilet built in the bowl!

I was surprised also that after all that time cleaning there was a collection of hairs in the shower and at the back of the toilet! After reading on the website that the hotel had recently been refurbished and described as "modern and tastefully designed, offering a warm relaxing atmosphere and a high degree of comfort" I felt extremely let down and frustrated.

By now it was 7 o'clock + having looked at many hotels coming towards Romano's with NO VACANCIES signs in the windows, I had no choice but to accept the room + sleep there for the night. I was sure i had seen the worst of the place anyway...

That was until at around 10.30 at night a cleaning lady strolled into my room, grabbed a pillow off my bed + walked out again, not saying 2 words to me! I was appalled! After a sleepless night laying on top of the sheets, not daring to climb in (it was incredibly stuffy in there anyway) i went down to breakfast which was served by the same lady, who again said nothing to me.

The layout was awful as the tables were not properly set. Some had cups, others did not, some had condiments and others did not. Choosing the table with the cups i sat down only to find the cups + plates were dirty. i was given two boiled eggs which were cold and when i cracked the shell, was digusted to find the yolk was black!? This was the case for both of them! I quickly chewed a bit of cold dry toast (i was not given butter) and sharply left ... passing a family in the reception being told that there room was not yet ready!

I do not recommend this hotel to anyone. There are hundreds of hotels in this area and i only wish i had left earlier to find something better.

“ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2010 via mobile

stayed here for the weekend , very basic room to the point you no draws or wardrobe. The kettle cord didnt reach the plug socket. And the bathroom was like a caravan ! Having said that it was clean and well placed. We paid 65 pound a night . To be fair thats very cheap for the area and allowed us much more spending money to enjoy our break. So all in all i would have to say its value for money.
