“Ideal stay-ref 235 At Home In London B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

I stayed at this private home owned by an artist/designer, in Belgravia off Kinnerton Street. Location was just a few minutes' walk to Hyde Park Corner station and the tony shops of Knightsbridge and the V & A on Brompton Road. On arrival from a direct flight from Western Canada, I was greeted by my hostess and shown to my room. Was provided with my own key so that I could come and go as I pleased. The suite of rooms I stayed in was spacious: a bedroom, living room with desk, chair and ottoman, and adjustable lighting throughout. Private bathroom with standup shower topped things off. Breakfast was prepared and set out promptly each morning in the kitchen by my gracious hostess, who showed me her art creations. The bed was comfy and the area was very quiet for central London, hence I slept quite well during my 6-night stay. For the price that I had paid (80 GBP per night breakfast included), this was very good value given the central location in London. Groceries could be bought down the street at Waitrose on Motcomb St., and several good restaurants (incl a Wagamama at Harvey Nichols near Knightsbridge station) are close by for inexpensive dining. Overall, a really satisfying stay in London without breaking the bank in this otherwise very ex$$penSive city for quality accommodations. Only drawback: no access to the house phone; but free, reliable WiFi in the house made up for it.

“Nice place, not too far from centre”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011

I planned to go alone to London and this place I'v chosen as well rated, 20mins by tube from centre and of course not too expensive. I have to say, I found what I'd expected.
Rosa (the owner) had warned me several time that my single room is very small. It is, but I came to see London and came home every day at 10pm and left morning at 8am. I didn't need anything else. The shared bathroom and toilette is not an issue, since it is not share with the whole house :-)
Help-yourself breakfast is very good. You can do whatever you want, find something to eat and enjoy the breakfast (without cleaning the dishes :-)
You might have a chance to find cheaper, better place closer to the centre, but I have to say, I was not successful and definitely do not regret choosing At Home B&B.

“Lovely place to stay - convienient, quiet and clean”

Stayed at “At Home” for 2 weeks and had a great time in London. Staying here is really like being at home in a leafy London suburb. Rosa, the owner, is very welcoming and helpful (and we arrived late!). She gave us a lot of local information and gave us her mobile number in case we needed any help during our stay. Then Rosa showed us to our very nice room, gave us the keys to the front door left us to be at home. It was lovely to be able to sit out in the beautiful garden for breakfast and have a quiet leisurely time before we hit the busy streets of London. You can come and go as you please and have breakfast at any time up to 12 noon. Our room, and the public areas, were always clean and our sheets were changed every 3rd day. Good value and relaxing, we really enjoyed our stay and will definitely return.

“Great garden to sit in at your breakfast. Sometimes very quiet. But sometimes noisy because of airplanes.”

Good but autonomic "do it yourself" breakfast.
Artistic atmosphere.

I’ve just finished a 7 week stint of staying with Rosa and Beep 'At Home' in Ealing. From my very first arrival date, Rosa welcomed me at a time to suit my schedule (it was quite late and interrupted her dinner) when we enjoyed a very pleasant handover of keys and payment in her far from shabby ‘shabby chic’ kitchen. I was then free to come and go as I pleased and felt very much at home.

I’ve stayed in many of the en-suite rooms available and found them all to share a high standard of cleanliness, comfort and style. The shower rooms were all new and thoughtfully planned with heated radiators to keep the towels lovely and warm.

Every room is decorated individually with tasteful and artistic pieces of furniture and art. I had the treat of sleeping in a beautiful ‘Arts and Crafts’ bed one stay and on another occasion Rosa had chosen the most luxurious Persian rug that felt wonderful underfoot. There are pieces of art adorning the whole house that add interest and some definitely took me back to a time when I wore flowers in my hair.

There is a good wi-fi signal on all floors that makes keeping in touch with friends and colleagues really easy to do.

Rosa had thoughtfully placed lots of flavoured tea in the rooms although I’m very much a breakfast tea baby at heart. Breakfast itself is a “help yourself/cook yourself” affair, which is great when one want to do a quick slice of toast to eat on the way as well as when one feels like breaking a few eggs. This alone is a treat using stylish Delonghi appliances that fit in well with the bohemian style – don’t be fooled - every key, door handle, quirky piece of furniture is chosen by a very discerning pallet that knocks spots off any interiors magazine.

I spent 10 minutes one morning watching young foxes frolicking in the leaf pile in the garden that Rosa very kindly opens up to anyone who’d like to use it.

My only word of caution is that this is not a place for folk who prefer plastic, 2 for 1, eat till you burst type establishments and get a thrill out of stealing the little shampoos and biscuits – more for those that appreciate subtle elegance and good taste mixed with a little eccentricity. I’ve had a wonderful experience and can’t wait to turn the key in the big red door another time.

Room Tip: Any room overlooking the garden would be especially nice
