“Excellent choice - a real gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2011

High Road House is a wonderful place to stay and I am happy to give it a strong recommendation. This is the second visit to London for my boyfriend and I and we were looking for a good value but also a nice place to stay that was convenient to the Tube. High Road House fit the bill perfectly. We visited during Christmas week 2010 and finding reasonably priced accommodation was a challenge that was certainly met by this hotel.

Now, for some specifics:

Location--- High Road House is located in a nice residential community very close to central London. For us, it was nice to get a different view of London since we stayed in the city center last time we visited. The Tube is only about a 5 to 10 minute walk from the hotel. We used the Tube to get to the hotel and did not use a taxi or rent a car. Just be aware that you will have to carry your luggage down 2 flights of stairs at the Turnham Green station as there is no elevator or escalator.

Extra tip: From the Turnham Green tube station take a left at the station exit. Then, walk to the next intersection (there's a light) and turn left again. Keep walking until you get to the next intersection (there's another light here) and turn left again, High Road House will be on your left. There were always taxis outside the station in case you want to take a ride. Unless it's raining heavily, it's not a bad walk.

Staff --- staff were pretty friendly and helpful. We had a little problem getting onto the hotel network (internet) and the front desk sorted it out immediately. We also had room service on New Years eve when the club was really busy and they did a good job trying to provide fast service. Also, the staff we're helpful in storing our luggage for the day.

Room--- the room was a really pleasant surprise. The photos on the website did not accurately represent how spacious our room would be. We had a "small" room and it was actually large by London standards. The bed was comfortable as were the pillows - and the room passed my bedbug check! The bathroom was similarly spacious, with an excellent shower and bathing products.

Extra tip for the ladies: I was stunned by the the hairdryer and straight iron provided by the hotel. Our room was stocked with a full-size Baby Bliss dryer and straight iron. It was fantastic ! No need to pack these items of you stay here. Why HRH doesn't publicize this feature on their website is beyond me.

Extra tip for techies: our room had a bunch of electrical outlets, so we could charge all of our devices at the same time. We had 2 iPhones, an iPad and MacBook. We did bring our own electrical converters. Also, Internet access was strong and consistent, something that is really important to us.

Noise issues: we stayed on the third (3rd) floor of the hotel and could sometimes hear someone walking around above our room. I live in a condo and am used to hearing the sounds of other people so this did not bother me. It might bother someone else. The value of HRH is high enough that some brief noise was not a problem.

I definitely recommend High Road House and am looking forward to visiting again soon. High Road House is a members club and has a nice, cozy feel. It's more like being in a friend's house than an impersonal hotel. High Road House would also be a good choice for single women traveling on their own as I felt very safe there.

“Avoid like the plague”

Arrived during a snow storm after a 12 hour trip from Los Angeles to be greeted by surly front desk staff who refused to help me with my luggage and then curtly told me the hotel has no parking. Who has ever heard of a hotel with no parking? Was informed I could try and find parking on nearby streets but that I would "have to feed the meters every two hours" or risk being towed. Drove around in blizzard trying to find parking lot before giving up in near tears. Returned to hotel to be greeted by surly receptionist who watched as I dragged my heavy suitcase back out to the rental car. Worse hotel experience ever. Avoid this 'hotel' like the plague. Terrible service, awful location and no parking.

“busy, well-designed, and good vibe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2010

This is part of the Soho House group, and one of the cozier properties in the portfolio in my view. Vibe is 'design', but not that dreadful cold atmosphere, a bit more lighthearted. My room had a sloped ceiling with wood slats, while painted stark-white it was still very cozy, Clever built-in amenities and nice soaps; great shower. Dining here is a treat, with a couple options. I love the restaurant downstairs. Busy, loud, but fun. As always in London one must consider carefully what part of town they need to move around in; it can take awhile to get to the West End for example from here, and when traffic is bad and trains full - its a bit painful to move around. But for little shopping and restaurants, no reason to leave this area

“High Road House is STILL a wonderful little hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 June 2010

My husband and I have made many return visits from our home in Houston, Texas to the High Road House (because we have family who live in Chiswick), and we must report that HRH is still an EXCELLENT little hotel! The rooms are always incredibly clean and comfortable there (the soft, new bathrobes are so nice), the staff is gracious, professional and extremely kind (Veronique, Mardon, Tracy and the rest of the staff are wonderful and always willing to assist), and the hotel's private restaurant is consistently good. We still have no complaints, only praises and compliments for this special place! We love being able to walk out the hotel door onto the Chiswick High Road brimming with interesting shops, high-end boutiques, restaurants, pubs, etc. Walk outside and turn right onto the High Road and you will find dozens of great places as well as the lovely local church and green (town center). If you turn left, you'll find equally tantalizing places to explore as well. The Turnham Green tube (subway) station is still a 5 minute walk around the corner from the hotel. You can hop on the tube and be in central London in 30 minutes or less, or you can have the hotel staff call you a cab and get a feel for the city as you weave your way through traffic to the tourist attractions of central London. (Be sure to politely ask your cab lots of questions -- most London cab drivers are excellent historians and can fill you in on many fascinating details about the city - they also love to talk politics). You really need not leave family-friendly Chiswick to have a good time, though. Be sure to check out Devonshire Road (a 2-minute walk from the hotel). We will keep coming back to the High Road House because it's a tiny, trendy, peaceful, inexpensive gem (which we have grown to love) in the heart of one of the world's most amazing cities.

“Missing the little extras”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2009

This hotel is good...but for the price I would expect all the little extras to make it really great. E.g. there is a DVD player in the room, but no DVDs at reception to borrow. The room we had was also quite noisy from the street cleaning which started at 6am.
