“Classy but Pricey”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

Stayed here for a few days in May (2011) for a 'special' birthday. Classy place with understated but excellent service. The rooms are large, comfortable and clean. The bathrooms could be larger and one would expect a wider range of bathroom potions for the price. The breakfasts were also not brilliant - OK but slightly disappointing for an establishment of this quality.
Location is excellent - very posh, just the place to play spot the supercar - and close to the better end of Oxford Street and Marble Arch (a good transport hub).
A good place for a special treat but I've had better value for money elsewhere.

“spotless hotel in good location”

We stayed at the Sumner for one night last weekend. It is without doubt a spotless hotel with quality fixtures and fittings. Although other reviewers have mentioned the helpful staff at check-in, the young lady who checked us in was pleasant but offered no extra information other than providing breakfast times and a wi-fi password. There was no mention of complimentary tea and coffee for residents - the price list in our room indicated that it was just under £4 per person, so we limited ourselves to just one cup each. It was only on check-out, when I offered to pay for the coffee, that I was told that there was no charge. Another small gripe is that the plates at breakfast are cold, which is fine for a continental, but warm plates for a cooked breakfast are essential. Also ... NO TOAST!!
As I stated, these are small gripes, but if addressed would have transformed our 'very good' experience in to an 'excellent' one.

“Fantastic Place to Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We stayed three wonderful nights at The Sumner. Our very clean and quiet third floor room was large and very comfortable (see photos). Bathroom was bright and very clean. The downstairs sitting room with fireplace was much nicer than their photos, and a great place for us to enjoy a bottle of wine one evening. Their hot, fresh breakfast was exceptional.

The hotel is located a 5 to 10 minute walk to Marble Arch, the Underground, and buses. We were very happy with the location. The limited eating choices in the immediate area around the hotel was not a problem for us, as we were always on the run at meal time anyway. In our opinion The Swan is the best pub in London, and is located only one Underground stop down Bayswater near Lancaster Gate.

While the facility was one of the nicest small hotels that we have ever experienced, their strength is their staff! They were were exceptionally friendly and helpful. To the staff - thank you for a memorable stay! When returning to London, we will return to The Sumner.

“Excellent hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Excellent hotel. Very clean. Friendly and helpful staff. I will definitely go back again. Ideally located 5 minutes walk from Marble Arch tube station. Free Internet. No hospitality tray in the bedroom but tea/coffee available on request any time.

Room Tip: The hotel has lifts but some rooms are 'between floors'. Request a room on a lift floor leve...

“Service makes up for a sleepless night!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Raucous neighbours ruined our first night at the Sumner; however, the staff handled the situation very professionally and we were upgraded to a deluxe room for our second night. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the hotel is in an excellent location.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the street can be a little noisy, but this is central London!
