Just returned from a few days stay at this hotel, and although I have reviewed it before and wouldn't normally repeat, I feel that there are now some negative factors in this establishment.
Upon check in I was advised that I had access to the business lounge (not the executive lounge) and this appeared to be conveyed to me as an extra treat even though my hilton membership allows such access.
It has been extremely cold over the last weekend in London and I noticed that the main reception/bar area was not the warmest. The 3 revolving doors (2 on main road and 1 at the back) can't help in keeping the heat in. I also feel that the hotel is quite dark with the colour scheme not helping either, there is not much natural light getting in.
Whilst I found the staff appear to welcome and communicate with the business travellers, they were somewhat evasive and in one case in particular a member of staff was extremely rude to me while making a remark one night and the following night made another error of judegment in informing me that the bar was closed even though I made no mention of wanting anything but a soft drink. She then proceeding to give free alchohol to two other business type people after this and a third person persuaded her to give out drinks over half an hour later. After this he wanted and got the TV changed for the football even though myself and others were watching the news.
I found the breakfast in the restaurant not much better, twice I was shown to a table and left without a mention of whether I wanted tea or coffee.
On the plus side, the hotel is spotlessly clean, good size of rooms and is a few mintues from London bridge rail/tube station. Lots of cafes and restaurants around it.
As for the lighting issue, perhaps this hotel lends itself more to being a summer venue when the days are longer and lighter and the sun is higher so it can attract more natural light.
Although I appreciate that this is close to a main business district of the capital, Ii just appears to be shame that a hotel in the shadow of one of London most iconic tourist landmarks in Tower Bridge, appears unwelcoming to tourists.
I asked for an email address for a manager so I could raise my concerns over the executice room incidents but this appears to have been given incorrectly.
Room Tip: Higher the floor for more natural light, rooms on the bend (ending in 10 on one side)are bigger.
